About the journal
Now published twenty-four times per year, this authoritative journal features strictly refereed original research in the field of environmental toxicology in general as well as in special interest fields such as target organ toxicities, immunotoxicology, risk assessment, carcinogenesis, mutagenesis, ecotoxicology, environmental factors affecting health, and aquatic toxicology. Emphasis is on the toxicological effects of natural and anthropogenic environmental pollutants and their action on both intact organisms and in vitro systems. Increased attention is being placed on the results of epidemiological studies of select groups of workers in exposed populations. To facilitate the timely publication of short articles, the journal has added a new Rapid Communications section, keeping readers on top of important new developments in the field, as they happen. Also published are refereed critical reviews in scientific areas of current toxicological interest.
Instructions to Authors
Submission of Manuscripts
Originals and two copies of each manuscript in English should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Sam Kacew, University of Ottawa, Pharmacology, 451 Smyth, Ottawa, Ontario K1H 8M5, Canada; phone (613) 562-5800 ext. 8357; fax (613) 562-5476; e-mail: skacew@uottawa.ca. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors¡¯ names, file name, and software program. A hardcopy printout that exactly matches the disk must be supplied. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.
All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. A cover page should be included containing all authors¡¯ full names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and email addresses. Authors should also supply a short-ended version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more that 250 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. Further instructions and an author template can be obtained from the journal¡¯s web page at www.taylorandfrancis.com.
References
References should be alphabetized by author and compiled in a separate section at the end of the manuscript. Cite in text by author and date. Please use The Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed., for correct reference style.
Rapid Communications
Manuscripts of less than 1,500 words (including abstract and references), with no more than one table and one figure, may be submitted for expedited peer review and publication within 3 months of acceptance. Follow standard preparation guidelines and send both hardcopy and electronic copies. Identify the submission on the title page as a Rapid Communication.
Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
- 300 dpi or higher
- sized to fit on journal page
- EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
- submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in their printing and publication. The charge for the first figure is $1,200.00. Subsequent figures, totaling no more than 4 text pages, are $500.00 each. Good- quality color prints should be provided in their final size. Figures needing reduction or enlargement will be charged an additional 25 percent. The publisher has the right to refuse publication of any artwork deemed unacceptable.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author¡¯s name, and top edge indicated.
Page Charges
Part of the publication cost is covered by a page charge of $43.50 per printed page. If these charges are paid, the author will receive 50 reprints of the article. The acceptance and publication of papers are not dependent on the payment of charges.
Proofs
One set of proofs is sent to the author. Proofs should be carefully checked and returned promptly. Authors will be charged for excessive changes. Proofs for Rapid Communication articles are sent only to the Editor-in-Chief.
Reprints
Reprints of an individual article may be ordered from Taylor & Francis at the time of page proofs
