Dobzhanzky is well remembered for noting that "nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution." Biology today is characterized by dynamism and excitement, as we strive to better understand the diversity of species that comprise life on Earth. This journal is dedicated to the advancement of our study and understanding of organisms and their interactions with their biotic and abiotic environments. During the past half-century, the fields of ecology and evolution have grown and changed greatly. Some changes of emphases have included the use of genetics to reconstruct phylogenies, applying those phylogenies to control for lineage effects in ecological studies, using stable isotopes to quantify the physiological performance of individuals, applying optimization and game theory to better understand foraging behavior and its consequences for populations and communities, and experimentally constructing ecological communities. We have theoretical and experimental tools that allow us to understand organisms, populations, and communities as never before. This journal has served the scientific community for over half a century, first as the Bulletin of the Research Council of Israel, Section B and then as The Israel Journal of Zoology. We have now changed the name of the journal to The Israel Journal of Ecology and Evolution to narrow the focus in concept and expand to include all organisms.
The Israel Journal of Ecology and Evolution is dedicated to publishing high quality original research and review papers that advance our knowledge and understanding of the function, diversity, abundance, distribution, and evolution of organisms at all levels of biological organization as they interact with their biotic and abiotic environments. Conceptual and empirical contributions are all welcome. While we give special consideration to studies based in Israel, Mediterranean climate areas, the Mediterranean Basin, and the entire Middle East, we will consider any high quality contribution regardless of geography. To further our goals, we regularly publish special compendium issues on timely and exciting subjects guest-edited by outstanding scientists active in the field. Those wishing to suggest a topic or edit a special volume are invited to submit proposals to the editors. We are dedicated to a rapid, high quality review process. |
