About the journal

Aims and Scope
Nursing Inquiry is an international peer-reviewed Journal which publishes articles for nurses and healthcare professionals on issues relating to the practice of nursing and healthcare. The Journal aims to;
* Explore emerging ideas, frameworks and approaches to healthcare
* Promote international perspectives in nursing and healthcare
* Inform debate on current issues in policy and practice
* Examine current trends in nursing and healthcare practice
The Editor welcomes original research and review articles on the following:
* Substantive research to investigate and analyse practices, technologies and trends in nursing and healthcare that draws upon methods and ideas from the humanities and social sciences, as well as from science and medicine.
* International and comparative perspectives on care giving, health care and health promotion in the context of globalisation and migration of care providers
* Policy analyses that critically examine the position of the healthcare professions in light of global issues, such as the casualisation of labour, the emergence of generic health workers, multi-disciplinary teams, independent practice models, technological changes, privatisation of health care and increased financial pressure on health spending.
* Methodological analyses that develop and review approaches and frameworks to inquiry in a way that extends and enriches nursing and healthcare research.
* Ethical inquiry regarding everyday healthcare practices and assumptions. We welcome papers that re-examine these assumptions and explore the connections between practice and ethics
* Philosophical inquiries that investigate the assumptions underpinning clinical practice and raise questions such as 'Why do we engage in particular practices?' We encourage papers that employ a comprehensive exploration of opposing ideologies and reject conformity in the study of the healthcare professions.

Instructions to Authors
Author Guidelines
Nursing Inquiry is a fully refereed journal that provides an interdisciplinary forum for the lively exchange of ideas about philosophical, methodological and substantive issues relating to ever day nursing practices. We invite submissions of Feature Articles, Reviews, and Commentaries. Conversations (written transcripts of conversations with international nursing scholars), Conference and Book Reviews will also be published.
Manuscripts are accepted for publication in Nursing Inquiry on the understanding that the content has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere. Except for Conversations and Conference and Book Reviews, manuscripts are peer-reviewed by two anonymous reviewers. The editorial board reserves the right to refuse any material for publication and advises that authors retain copies of submitted manuscripts and correspondence as material cannot be returned.
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the guidelines below and submitted online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/nin. Full instructions and support are available on the site and a user ID and password can be obtained on the first visit. Support can be contacted by phone (+1 434 817 2040 ext. 167) or at http://mcv3support.custhelp.com. If you cannot submit online or have a general query, please contact the Editorial Office via e-mail at nijournal.nursing@utoronto.ca.
It is a condition of publication that authors grant Nursing Inquiry the exclusive licence to publish all articles. Papers will not be passed to the publisher for production unless the exclusive licence to publish has been granted. To assist authors an exclusive licence form is available from the editorial office or by clicking here http://www.blackwellpublishing.com/pdf/nin_exclusive_licence.pdf
Authors are themselves responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyright material from other sources.
Preparation of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be consistent in presentation and style. Descriptive subheads (maximum of two levels) may be used. Spelling should follow either British, USA or Australian conventions, but must be consistent throughout the manuscript. Citations should follow the author-date system, commonly called the Harvard system (see below). Footnotes are to be used sparingly.
Layout should be double-spaced. The manuscript should be presented in the following order: title page, abstract and keywords, text, acknowledgments, references, figure legends, figures and tables. All pages should be numbered. A cover sheet setting out the manuscript title and correspondence details of the author(s) should be included with the manuscript, but the author(s) name(s) should not appear on the manuscript itself.
Word Limits Feature Articles and Reviews should be between 5000 and 8000 words, inclusive of tables, figures and references. Commentaries are shorter pieces, often of a more polemic nature, ranging from 2000 to 4000 words.
Title Page The title page should contain the category of the article, the title and word length of the paper. The title should be short and informative and contain the major keywords. A short title (up to 40 characters including spaces) should also be provided.
Abstract and Keywords All papers must include an abstract of 150-200 words, which describes the method of research and the principal conclusions of the study. The abstract should not contain abbreviations or references. Up to five keywords (chosen from the CINAHL thesaurus, if possible) should also be provided.
Acknowledgments The source of financial grants and the contribution of colleagues or institutions should be acknowledged. The written permission of each person acknowledged should be obtained.
