About the journal
Aims and scope
Description The journal Sleep and Breathing aims to reflect the state of the art in the international science and practice of sleep medicine. The journal is based on the recognition that management of sleep disorders requires a multi-disciplinary approach and diverse perspectives. The initial focus of Sleep and Breathing is on timely and original studies that collect, intervene, or otherwise inform all clinicians and scientists in medicine, dentistry and oral surgery, otolaryngology, and epidemiology on the management of the upper airway during sleep.
Furthermore, Sleep and Breathing endeavors to bring readers cutting edge information about all evolving aspects of common sleep disorders or disruptions, such as insomnia and shift work. The journal includes not only patient studies, but also studies that emphasize the principles of physiology and pathophysiology or illustrate potentially novel approaches to diagnosis and treatment. In addition, the journal features articles that describe patient-oriented and cost-benefit health outcomes research. Thus, with peer review by an international Editorial Board and prompt English-language publication, Sleep and Breathing provides rapid dissemination of clinical and clinically related scientific information. But it also does more: it is dedicated to making the most important developments in sleep disordered breathing easily accessible to clinicians who are treating sleep apnea by presenting well-chosen, well-written, and highly organized information that is useful for patient care.
"Sleep and Breathing" is offering its authors free use of color and a rapid online publication.

Illustrations and Tables
All figures (photographs, graphs or diagrams) and tables should be cited in the text, and each numbered consecutively throughout. Lowercase letters (a, b etc.) should be used to identify figure parts. If illustrations are supplied with uppercase labeling, lowercase letters will still be used in the figure legends and citations.
Details that might identify patients should be omitted unless absolutely necessary for scientific reasons. Falsification or altering of data should never be used as a means of ensuring anonymity; masking of the eye region in photographs of patients may be inadequate. If identification of patients is unavoidable, the author must guarantee that the reproduction of illustrations in which a patient is recognizable is approved either by the patient him-/herself or by his/her legal representative.

|
|
Figure legends must be brief, self-sufficient explanations of the illustrations. The legends should be placed at the end of the text. |
Tables
|

Color illustrations
|
|
Colour illustrations will be accepted; however, publication will only be free of charge to the authors if the use of color is scientifically justified. |
Proofreading
Authors should make their proof corrections on a printout of the pdf file supplied, checking that the text is complete and that all figures and tables are included. After online publication, further changes can only be made in the form an Erratum, which will be hyperlinked to the article. The author is entitled to formal corrections only. Substantial changes in content, e.g. new results, corrected values, title and authorship are not allowed without the approval of the editor. In such a case please contact the Editorin- Chief before returning the proofs to the publisher.
Offprints
One complimentary copy is supplied. Orders for offprints can be placed by returning the order form with the corrected proofs.
