About the journal
SCOPE
The purpose of ACS Chemical Biology is to provide an international forum for the rapid communication of research that broadly embraces the interface between chemistry and biology. The journal also serves as a forum to facilitate the communication between biologists and chemists that will translate into new research opportunities and discoveries. Results will be published in which molecular reasoning has been used to probe questions through in vitro investigations, cell biological methods, or organismal studies. We welcome mechanistic studies on proteins, nucleic acids, sugars, lipids, and non-biological polymers. The journal serves a large scientific community, exploring cellular function from both chemical and biological perspectives. It is understood that submitted work is based upon original results and has not been published previously.
Published monthly, ACS Chemical Biology delivers original research articles and reviews. The journal also publishes Spotlights of current research in chemical biology, Profiles of experts, Points of View, and Ahead of the Curve perspectives from up and coming faculty. The journal web site is updated weekly with new content, and features a community focus that encourages biologists and chemists to engage in discussions with their peers.

Instructions to Authors
ETHICAL GUIDELINES

The ACS Journals' Ethical Guidelines are offered from a conviction that the observance of high ethical standards is so vital to the whole scientific enterprise that a definition of those standards should be brought to the attention of all concerned. The Editors of journals published by the American Chemical Society provide a set of ethical guidelines for persons engaged in the publication of chemical research, specifically, for editors, authors, and manuscript reviewers. These guidelines were developed by the Editors of the journals published by the Publications Division of the ACS and are reviewed regularly to ensure their clarity.

  MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Manuscripts should be submitted through our Manuscript Submission Site specific to our journal. Please do not send complete manuscripts by e-mail unless specifically requested. ACS Chemical Biology does not use the ACS Paragon system for manuscript submissions.

  PRESUBMISSION INQUIRES

A short presubmission inquiry can be sent to the Executive Editor (chembiol#acs.org*); subject line should indicate that this is a presubmission editorial inquiry to request feedback on the journal’s level of interest in a manuscript. This process is designed as a time saver to our authors and decisions about such inquiries are made within 2 days of submission. Please supply the abstract of the manuscript and a cover letter stating the interest to the broad readership and any additional information that will help the editors determine the appropriateness of the manuscript for the journal. The editors will reply indicating the journal’s level of interest in the manuscript. Papers invited after a presubmission inquiry undergo the same rigorous editorial review and some may not be sent out to review.

  COPYRIGHT & PERMISSIONS

Authors and readers may use the links below to retrieve information on copyright transfer and permission to reprint material in ACS Chemical Biology.

The ACS Publications Division Copyright Office accepts copyright permission requests via e-mail: copyright#acs.org. Even though we do accept requests via e-mail, we respond via fax, so be sure to include your name, affiliation, mailing address and fax number. As with written requests, please include the full reference citation for the material (full text, figures, tables, etc.) that you would like to use, and the purpose for reusing the material, e.g. let us know where the text/figure will be reused; if it will be republished, let us know the full reference citation for the journal article or book chapter; if it will be republished in a book, give us the name of the publishing company.
