About the journal

The Journal of Molecular Histology is a continuation of The Histochemical Journal. The Journal of Molecular Histology is dedicated to publishing the results of original research concerned with the localisation and expression of molecules in animal cells, tissues and organs. Studies describing novel cellular or ultrastructural distributions of molecules which provide insights into biochemical or physiological function, development, histologic structure and disease processes are preferred. Articles using histochemical, immunohistochemical, in situ hybridisation, receptor binding, autoradiography, image capture and processing, and reporter molecules as well as new state-of-the-art visualisation techniques are especially welcomed. The Journal does not consider manuscripts dealing with the application of immunological or other probes on non-standard laboratory animal models unless the results are of significant biological importance.
Papers in the following topics are encouraged:
Subcellular localisation and trafficking of molecules and organelles, both in living cells and in fixed preparations, Cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions, Cellular cytoskeleton and receptor dynamics and functions, Cell and tissue differentiation and remodelling, Genetically engineered cells and tissues, Three-dimensional reconstructions, particularly of expression patterns over time, Cell cycle and cell lineage analysis involving gene expression profiles, Apoptosis, Gene expression analysis from histological preparations, Functional genomics and proteomics, New and improved techniques and critical reports on existing techniques used in molecular histology. The Journal of Molecular Histology publishes full-length original research papers, review articles, short communications and letters to the editors. All papers and reviews are referred by at least two independent referees.
Abstracted/Indexed in: Biological Abstracts, BIOSIS, CABS, Chemical Abstracts Service, Current Contents/ Life Sciences, EMBASE, IBIDS, Index Medicus/MEDLINE, ISI Alerting Services, Science Citation Index, Science Citation Index Expanded, SCOPUS

| Online Manuscript Submission |
 | The Journal of Molecular Histology has a fully web−enabled manuscript submission and review system. This system offers authors the option of tracking in real time the review process of their manuscripts. The online manuscript and review system offers easy and straightforward log−in and submission procedures. It supports a wide range of submission file formats, including Word, WordPerfect, RTF, TXT and LaTeX for article text and TIFF, EPS, PS, GIF, JPEG and PPT for figures. PDF is not a recommended format.
Authors are requested to download the Consent to Publish and Transfer of Copyright form from this system. Please send a completed and signed form either by mail or fax to the Journal of Molecular Histology Office.
NOTE: By using the online manuscript submission and review system, it is NOT necessary to submit the manuscript also as printout + disk. In case you encounter any difficulties while submitting your manuscript online, please get in touch with the responsible Editorial Assistant by clicking on "CONTACT US" from the toolbar.
 Manuscripts should be submitted to:
 http://hijo.edmgr.com

|
| The Manuscript |
 | Submissions should be in English, typed in double spacing on one side only of A4 paper with ample (2.4 cm) top, bottom and left−hand margins. Figures and tables should be referred to in the text as 'Figure. 1' etc and 'Table 1' etc. Generally, a paper should be in the order: Summary, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, and captions for illustrations and captions for tables.
 |
|
| Abbreviations and Nomenclature |
 | Only commonly used abbreviations (e.g. DNA) will be permitted without explanation. The use of other abbreviations is strongly discouraged. If they must be used, e.g. a long systematic name of a reagent stated more than about five times, they must be spelt out in full at the first mention. In most cases, repetition can be avoided by referring to the item subsequently by a generalised name, such as the enzyme inhibitor. Correct trivial names of reagents and other substances should be used. The simplest way of checking the spelling of these is to refer to catalogues of major biochemical distributors.
 |
|
| Title Page |
 | The first page of the manuscript should contain, in addition to the title of the paper and the names and affiliations of the authors (see a current issue for the style), a short running title of less than 75 letters and spaces.
 |
|
| Summary |
 | Every paper must include a factual summary of its content, without reference to the text, not exceeding 200 words. It should not contain any non−standard abbreviations or references.
 |
|
| References |
 | The Harvard system should be followed in the text. Thus: Steel et al. (2001) and (Stoward 1991). The references should be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetical order in the form:
Steel JH, Morgan DE, Poulsom R (2001) Advantages of in situ hybridisation over direct or indirect in situ reverse transcriptase−polymerase chain reaction for localisation of galanin mRNA expression in rat small intestine and pituitary. Histochem. J. 23, 409−414.
Stoward PJ (1991) Reductases and oxygenases. In Stoward PJ, Pearse AGE, eds. Histochemistry: Theoretical and Applied. Vol. 3. Enzyme Histochemistry, 4th edn, pp. 123−133. Edinburgh: Churchill Livingstone.

| Colour Plates |
 | Up to two colour pages (irrespective of the number of individual figures on them) will be published free of charge. When the referees and Editor agree that colour plates are essential needed up to two colour pages (irrespective of the number of individual figures on them) will be published free of charge. Additional colour pages will be charged at 340 Euros per page.

|
| Offprints |
 | Fifty offprints of each article will be provided free of charge. Further offprints can be ordered when the proofs are returned. Proofs will be sent to authors as PDF format e−mail attachments.

| Springer Open Choice |
 | In addition to the normal publication process (whereby an article is submitted to the journal and access to that article is granted to customers who have purchased a subscription), Springer now provides an alternative publishing option: Springer Open Choice. A Springer Open Choice article receives all the benefits of a regular subscription−based article, but in addition is made available publicly through Springers online platform SpringerLink. To publish via Springer Open Choice, upon acceptance please click on the link below to complete the relevant order form and provide the required payment information. Payment must be received in full before publication or articles will publish as regular subscription−model articles. We regret that Springer Open Choice cannot be ordered for published articles.
