Notice to Authors

The Tohoku Journal of Experimental Medicine is one of the oldest and

the most prestigious periodicals in Japan and the world. The TJEM is open to

original articles in all branches of medical sciences from authors throughout the

world. Case reports, which advance significantly our knowledge on medical

sciences or practice, are also accepted. Review articles will also be considered.

Please approach the Editor-in-Chief before submitting a review article. All types

of papers are intended to present new information of exceptional novelty,

importance and interest to the broad readership of the TJEM.

The articles should be written in English. Papers, which will be

simultaneously or have been published in any other periodicals or proceedings,

will not be accepted. The TJEM welcomes full papers requiring prompt

publication.

Manuscripts submitted under multiple authorship are reviewed on the

assumption that all listed authors concur in the submission and that the final

version of the manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors.

Authors should submit their manuscript files online. A single PDF file is

required for submission. Note that the PDF file should contain the entire content

of a manuscript (text, references, and all illustrations). Prospective authors

should go to the TJEM web page and follow the instructions for submitting a

manuscript; http://ess.jstage.jst.go.jp/contributor/TJEM/contribLogin

If you have any questions about the submission process, you may contact

the editorial office.

telephone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses of the potential reviewers.

Please note that final decision on reviewers used is at the discretion of the

Editorial Board.

Before preparing manuscripts authors are advised to consult a recent issue

of the TJEM for the general format such as layout of tables and citation of

references. The manuscripts should be typewritten double-spaced. The title of

the paper, the name(s) of the author(s) and institution(s) where the work was

performed should be followed by an abstract of less than 250 words and by five

keywords. The title and the abstract should be written for readers outside the

discipline. The abstract should contain the rationale, objectives, findings, and

main conclusions of the work.

Informed Consent and Animal Welfare: In cases where a study deals with

human subjects or live animals, the Methods section of the manuscript should

include a statement that all experiments were performed in compliance with the

relevant laws and/or institutional guidelines. A statement should also be included

that informed consent was obtained from human subjects.

Each table and figure must have a caption. Each table is accompanied by its

legend typewritten double-spaced on a same sheet, and figure legends, also

typewritten double-spaced, are to be separated from the main text. Photographs

of high quality may be requested for printing of morphological data.

References should be listed at the end of the Discussion in alphabetical

order under the first author's name: Surname(s), followed by initials of

forename(s); year of publication (in parentheses); title of article; title of

periodical (abbreviated according to Index Medicus and italic); number of

volume (bold); and the first and last pages. Publications by the same author(s) in

the same year should be listed as 2007a, 2007b, etc. When a book is referred to,

Tohoku University Medical Press is a non-profit publisher with support in part

from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science. It is our responsibility as a

publisher that the TJEM is continuously published. However, we are constantly

facing increasing production costs of the TJEM. The Processing Fees cover a

portion of the costs related to handling of a manuscript, including technological

investments, which are important to keep the TJEM on the forefront of the

electronic development. Accordingly, your article published in the TJEM is

available through PubMed without barrier to access.
