Notes to Authors of Papers
£Solvent Extraction Research and Development, Japan£
1. Scope and Editorial Policy
Solvent Extraction Research and Development, Japan (SERDJ) is a periodical issued from Japan Association of Solvent Extraction (JASE) containing papers dealing with all aspects of solvent extraction and their related methods, underlying principles, and materials. Original articles, notes, technical reports, and critical reviews will be considered for publication. Original articles must be of reasonably broad scope and significance to the solvent extraction. Notes will originally describe novel work of a limited nature or especially significant work in progress. Authors can contribute some information of novel techniques, equipment or apparatus, reagents and diluents for solvent extraction as technical reports. Critical reviews will be received from the authors to whom the editorial committee asked to contribute.

Manuscripts should be submitted via the web site. Submission of a manuscript is contingent upon the agreement by all the authors that the work reported therein has not received prior publication and is not under consideration for publication elsewhere in any medium, including electronic journals and computer databases. More than one of the authors should be the members of Japan Association of Solvent Extraction.

Papers are accepted on the basis of judgment of their quality and probable lasting value and must reflect conclusions of general significance rather than simply the reporting of data or calculations and original contribution. Four types of papers, original articles, note, technical report, and critical review are acceptable for the publication. In principle, original papers should be 6 - 14 pages, and notes and technical reports should be within 6 pages.

Original articles are the papers which include the original research contents concerning the solvent extraction, and should include scientific or technical value and conclusion.

Notes are short reports including new ideas or data, especially even when an early stage of development.

Technical reports are the papers having practical importance, such as new technical information, new apparatus, novel extractant, and novel diluent.

Critical Reviews are welcomed in wide areas appropriate to the journal. Reviews should be timely and in-depth treatments considering beyond the compilation of recent literatures. They should give the readers some critical guidance of the present state of the art and the planning of experiments. Acceptance is based on the same peer review system as that used for regular papers.

2. Preparation and Submission of Manuscript
Copyright Transfer Statement Form: A properly completed copyright transfer statement form must be provided for each submitted manuscript, when the manuscript is accepted for the publication. A form is available from the web site. The completed, signed, and dated form should be mailed or faxed to the editor.

Submission and Revision of Manuscript: The manuscript should be submitted to one of editorial board whom should be selected by the field of the content as follows. This can be done on the first step of the submission page of the web site.

The articles concerning metal separation, hydrometallurgy, and computational chemistry are submitted to K. Yoshizuka, concerning theory, principles and thermodynamics and fundamentals are submitted to H. Imura, and concerning bio separation, particular extraction (reverse miceller system, aqueous two phase system, liquid membrane etc.), and miscellaneous contents are submitted to M. Goto.

The manuscript will be peer reviewed and the propriety of the acceptance will be decided by editorial board.

Notice to Authors of Paper. The copyright of the paper accepted for publication in SERDJ belongs to JASE. Authors are requested to pay a page charge (3,000 yen/page) including the cost of reprints. The authors receive detailed instructions concerning payment to JASE. However, papers contributed from abroad as requested by editor are free of charge. After the publication, 30 reprints will be provided for each paper. E-mail address of the corresponding author should be noted responsible for submission of the manuscript.

Preparation of Manuscript: Publication will be accomplished by directly photographing the manuscript, so-called camera-ready publication. Since the original manuscript properly prepared is essential, any manuscript impossible to camera-ready publication will be rejected. The language should be English. All papers should be written using SI units and dimensions of all terms should be stated. Nomenclature should conform to the rules established by the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC).

General Printing Instructions: The manuscript should be prepared with the word processor by A4 size (29.6 cm ¡Á 21 cm) within 34 - 36 lines for the opening page and 40 - 42 lines for the other pages. Serif fonts such as Times and Times New Roman are recommended, and point size is 12 for the title and 10.5 for the other part. Leave each margin: 60 mm on the top margin, 36 mm on the bottom margin for the opening page, 30 mm on the top, 36 mm on the bottom margin for the other pages, and 25 mm on the left and the right margins for all pages, respectively. Please refer the "Manuscript Template" file for the details.

Title: The title should accurately, clearly, and concisely reflect the emphasis and content of the paper. In the title, only the first letter of the word except the article, conjunction, and preposition should be capitalized, and the title should be centered on the width of printing area. This is followed by a 1-line space and the name(s) and address(es) are centered on the page.

Author list: The name(s) and address(es) of the author(s) are followed, after a 1-line space of the title, with 35 mm on the left and 30mm on the right margin. Use first names, initials, and surnames. Do not include professional or official titles or academic degrees.

Abstract: The abstracts are used directly for Chemical Abstracts. They should be a clear, concise (100-150 words) summary-informative rather than descriptive-giving the scope and purpose, methods or procedures, significant new results, and conclusions. Do not include footnotes or numbered references in the abstract; use the full citation, enclosed in square brackets.

Tables and Figures: Tables and figures are directly put in the text. However, care should be taken that they do not overlap onto the next page. The title of the table is centered, and the first letter of the word capitalized. Tables and figures are numbered in series by Arabic numerals. Captions for the figures are written below each figure.

Acknowledgment: Acknowledgement may be placed at the end of the text, before the references. No heading for acknowledgement is necessary.

References: Arabic numerals in brackets on the line are used in the text to indicate a reference. Reference should be numbered consecutively. Full references should be listed at the end of the text in numerical order. The author(s) initials and last name to a referenced paper, the title of journal (use Chemical Abstracts abbreviations), the volume number, the first page, and the year in parentheses should appear in that order. Books are similarly cited and should include the publisher's name and location, along with the title of the book and the published year. Reference to a patent should include the name of the inventor(s), title of the patent, patent number, and the year in parentheses.
