About the journal

Research in Microbiology

Research in Microbiology publishes original reports covering all aspects of microbiology, including general and molecular microbiology, physiology and microbial genetics, environmental and applied microbiology, industrial microbiology, mycology and medical microbiology, and now also covers microbial genomics, energing microbiological diseases, and the genetics of virulence. In addition to full-length articles, brief notes, position papers and mini-reviews are welcome. This international journal also provides Forums for the exchange of ideas and opinions, and news and discussion papers for the column ``Times and Trends''. The overriding criteria for publication are originality, high scientific quality and up-to-date relevance. Papers should be written with a wide audience of microbiologists in mind.

Audience

Microbiologists.

Instructions to Authors

Research in Microbiology, Instructions for authors

1. The contents of Research in Microbiology

Research in Microbiology publishes 10 issues a year covering all aspects of microbiology. Sections include:

  • Taxonomy
  • Microbial communities and interactions between microbes
  • Population genetics and evolution
  • Mobile elements (bacteriophages, transposons, plasmids and related genetic elements)
  • Microbe-environment interactions
  • Host-pathogen interactions
  • Physiology and metabolism
  • Molecular genetics
  • Genomics (transcriptomes, proteomes) and structural biology
  • Applications, methodologies

2. Types of papers

  • Original reports
  • Mini-reviews
  • News and discussion papers (Times & Trends)
  • Correspondence (Letters to the Editor)
  • Brief notes
  • Special issues (invited).

3. How to submit a manuscript

Please use our online e-submission site: http://microbio.fontismedia.com
Regular manual submission: Send three printouts of your manuscript to an Associate Editor specialising in your field, or to the Editor in Chief (see list in each issue or consult web site). Please indicate the section to which your paper corresponds (see 1. above). If the manuscript is accepted, you will be required to provide an electronic version at the time of acceptance. This version must correspond exactly to the hard copy version.

PLEASE NOTE: Grammar, syntax and spelling must be carefully prepared and checked BEFORE submission and/or resubmission of your paper.

4. General format

Single-space throughout (including references, figure legends and table footnotes). Note: manual submissions should be double-spaced Use 2.5-cm (1 inch) margins on all four sides.
Type in a font size of at least 11 points.
Number each page top right (title page is 1).
Indent each new paragraph.
Number each chapter heading, starting with 1. Introduction; then 1.1 Subheading
Use either American or English spelling, but not both.
In general, do not use capital letters (except for first letter) for titles, author names, section headings, etc.
When referring to figures in the main text, figure is abbreviated to Fig., i.e., Fig. 1. When referring to tables, use Arabic numerals, i.e., Table 2.
NOTE: A template is available on the submission site; we ask that you please consult it.
