About the journal
Proceedings A - Mathematics
Proceedings A is a general mathematics journal publishing papers of international standard across the whole spectrum of mathematics, but with the emphasis on applied analysis and differential equations.
Instructions to Authors
Submitting a paper
Proceedings of the Royal Society of Edinburgh: Section A considers for publication papers in all areas of mathematics. Papers for submission should be sent to:
The Editorial Office (Proc A)
International Centre for Mathematical Sciences
14 India Street
Edinburgh EH3 6EZ, Scotland, UK
Contact numbers: Tel: (0)131 220 1777; Fax (0)131 220 1053;
email icms-proca@maths.ed.ac.uk
Authors should send three copies of the paper; they should not at this stage send a disk or email a file to the Editorial Office. At present, Proceedings A requires hard copies of the paper and does not accept electronic submission.
A paper by more than one author should be submitted with a statement, signed by each author, to the effect that the paper in its entirety is approved by the joint authors and naming the author who will be responsible for correspondence.
An acknowledgement letter or email will be sent to the corresponding author on receipt of the paper. This will cite a reference number which will be used in all future correspondence regarding the paper.
Authors must prepare their papers as concisely as possible. Although Proceedings A has no page limit, longer papers can be difficult to review in a reasonable time and can be judged more harshly.
Each paper must be accompanied by a synopsis, in general not exceeding 200 words, which will be printed. References should be listed at the end of the paper in alphabetical order, numbered sequentially. References within the text should be indicated by numbers in square brackets. Authors are encouraged to use TEX typesetting software to prepare their papers. The LATEX macro package is especially recommended and a class file, are available for downloading. Once a paper has been accepted for publication, authors will be asked, whenever possible, to supply the appropriate electronic file. This should be a single file, with any relevant macros included in the preamble, and named after the article reference number (e.g. 99345.tex). Figures in postscript form are also welcome, and should be submitted at the same time as the code for the paper.
Proofs and offprints
Authors will be sent proofs of their paper for checking, together with an offprint order form. Fifty offprints are supplied free of charge, this number to be shared between joint authors. Additional offprints may be ordered in units of 25.
Copyright
On acceptance of their paper, authors are asked to assign the copyright of their paper to the Royal Society of Edinburgh. They are also asked to ensure that any electronic versions of their paper clearly state the official place of publication.
Except as otherwise permitted under the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act, 1988, papers published in Proceedings A may only be reproduced, stored or transmitted with the prior permission of the copyright holder, or, in the case of reprographic reproduction, in accordance with the terms of a licence issued by the Copyright Licensing Agency. The Society permits the making of a single photocopy of an article from an issue (under Sections 29 & 38 of the Act) for an individual for the purposes of research or private study.
