About the journal
The Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society
The Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society has been published since 1865, and today maintains its rank as one of the most eminent international mathematics journals. The Proceedings publishes longer research papers, covering a wide range of mathematical topics, both pure and applicable, including real and complex analysis, differential equations and related areas, topology, geometry, logic, probability and statistics, algebra, number theory and combinatorial theory.
Instructions to Authors
Submission of papers
The London Mathematical Society publishes three printed research periodicals, the Proceedings, Journal and Bulletin. It also publishes an electronic journal, the LMS Journal of Computation and Mathematics which has separate procedures for submission. This section refers only to the printed periodicals.
Electronic Submission
Authors may now submit papers electronically as Postscript or PDF files. Send the file via anonymous ftp to ftp://ftp.lms.ac.uk/pub/bjp-submissions/. (If your method of accessing ftp requires a username, please log in as "anonymous" or "ftp" with your email address as the password.) Further information on various methods of using FTP to transfer files is available at: ftp://ftp.lms.ac.uk/pub/instructions.txt.
Then send an e-mail to publications@lms.ac.uk, confirming that you wish the paper to be considered for publication, and giving:
a. the title and authors of the paper,
b. the full address details of the corresponding author, including e-mail address,
c. the name of the Editorial Adviser (www.lms.ac.uk/publications/advisers.html ) whose mathematical interests are judged to be closest to the subject of the paper,
d. the name and type of file(whether Postscript or PDF) which you have submitted via anonymous ftp, and
e. whether a LaTeX file of the paper is available. (DO NOT send this file on submission.)
You will be sent an acknowledgement once we have confirmed your file is printable. In all other respects, for advice on submitting a paper, please follow the instructions below concerning the Preparation of Manuscripts. If you are submitting a revised version of your paper, please ensure you use a different filename to the original version and please avoid using easily duplicated filenames, such as paper.ps or article.ps.
Submission by Post
Authors wishing to submit a paper for publication by post should send two hard copies to the Publications Manager, London Mathematical Society, De Morgan House, 57 - 58 Russell Square, London WC1B 4HS, England. They must include a letter giving:
a. the title and authors of the paper,
b. the full address details of the corresponding author, including e-mail address,
c. the name of the Editorial Adviser whose mathematical interests are judged to be closest to the subject of the paper, and
d. whether a LaTeX file of the paper is available.
Papers are allocated among the three printed periodicals according to length. Longer papers are normally published in the Proceedings and those of medium length in the Journal. The Bulletin publishes survey articles, short research papers, book reviews and obituaries. Papers may be submitted in English, French or German. No paper that has been previously published, or which is being considered for publication elsewhere, should be submitted to the London Mathematical Society. Nor may a paper which is under consideration by the London Mathematical Society be submitted elsewhere. Authors of accepted papers will be asked to assign copyright to the Society prior to publication. Papers will no longer be returned to authors on request. Authors should take care and keep a copy of all paperwork sent to the Society. The Society cannot accept responsibility for loss of manuscripts. Authors of papers accepted for publication in one of the Society's publications will be sent two copies of the first set of proofs. They are asked to read these very carefully, to make all corrections that are necessary, and return one copy as quickly as possible. Note that the proofs are made by photocopying, and consequently the quality of the proofs is no guide to the quality of the final printed version of a paper.
MSC Codes (2000)
The Mathematical Subject Classification Codes were updated in 2000 and are now available from the
AMS website via the following link. Please use the new codes when submitting your paper. Classification
numbers should appear at the bottom of the first page of manuscript (see Preparation of manuscripts for
further information, www.lms.ac.uk/publications/preparation.pdf)
