About the journal

|
POLYMERS FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES is published in response to recent significant changes in the patterns of materials research and development. Worldwide attention has been focused on the critical importance of materials in the creation of new devices and systems. It is now recognized that materials are often the limiting factor in bringing a new technical concept to fruition and that polymers are often the materials of choice in these demanding applications. A significant portion of the polymer research ongoing in the world is directly or indirectly related to the solution of complex, interdisciplinary problems whose successful resolution is necessary for achievement of broad system objectives. |
POLYMERS FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES is focused to the interest of scientists and engineers from academia and industry who are participating in these new areas of polymer research and development. It is the intent of this journal to impact the polymer related advanced technologies to meet the challenge of the twenty-first century.
POLYMERS FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES aims at encouraging innovation, invention, imagination and creativity by providing a broad interdisciplinary platform for the presentation of new research and development concepts, theories and results which reflect the changing image and pace of modern polymer science and technology.
POLYMERS FOR ADVANCED TECHNOLOGIES aims at becoming the central organ of the new multi-disciplinary polymer oriented materials science of the highest scientific standards. It will publish original research papers on finished studies; communications limited to five typewritten pages plus three illustrations, containing experimental details; review articles of up to 40 pages; letters to the editor and book reviews. Review articles will normally be published by invitation. The Editor-in-Chief welcomes suggestions for reviews.
Instructions to Authors
Initial manuscript submission. The Journal publishes Research Articles, Review Articles, Short Communications and Letters to the Editor. Submit four copies of the manuscript (including copies of tables and illustrations) to the Editor-in-Chief or the nearest Regional Editor.
Authors must also supply:
- an electronic copy of the final version (see section below),
- a Copyright Transfer Agreement with original signature(s) - without this we are unable to accept the submission, and
- permission grants - if the manuscript contains extracts, including illustrations, from other copyright works (including material from on-line or intranet sources) it is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission from the owners of the publishing rights to reproduce such extracts using the Wiley Permission Request Form. Permission grants should be submitted with the manuscript.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been previously published and should not be submitted for publication elsewhere while they are under consideration by Wiley. Submitted material will not be returned to the author unless specifically requested.
Electronic submission. The electronic copy of the final, revised manuscript must be sent to the Editor together with the paper copy. Disks should be PC or Mac formatted; write on the disk the software package used, the name of the author and the name of the journal. We are able to use most word processing packages, but prefer Word or WordPerfect.
Illustrations must be submitted in electronic format where possible. Save each figure as a separate file, in TIFF or EPS format preferably, and include the source file. Write on the disk the software package used to create them; we favour dedicated illustration packages over tools such as Excel or Powerpoint.
Manuscript style. The language of the journal is English. All submissions, including book reviews, must have a title, be printed on one side of the paper, be double-line spaced and have a margin of 3 cm all round. Illustrations and tables must be printed on separate sheets, and not be incorporated into the text.
- The title page must list the full title, short title of up to 70 characters, and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including e-mail, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
- Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
- Supply an abstract of up to 300 words for all articles, except book reviews. An abstract should be a concise summary of the whole paper, not just the conclusions, and should be understandable without reference to the rest of the paper. It should contain no citation to other published work.
- It is the author's responsibility to provide keywords to appear after the abstract and to be used for the subject index at the end of the volume. To facilitate online searching, the editors of the Wiley polymer journals have compiled a common Keyword Catalog. At least three of the maximum of five keywords assigned to an article must come from this list.
Organisation of manuscript. The text should be divided into the following sections: Introduction, Experimental, Results, Discussion and References. Sufficient experimental detail must be provided to allow repetition of the work, and for special materials and equipment the manufacturer’s name and location should be provided. New compounds should be adequately characterised.
Quantities, Units, Abbreviations and Nomenclature. Use only SI quantities and units (SI: Système International d’Unités). If data with non-SI units is used, then also include, in parentheses, the corresponding data with SI units. Symbols and abbrevi-ations used to represent variables, constants, quantities, properties etc. must be defined in the text at their first occurrence. In addition compile a list of all symbols and abbreviations at the end of the text under the heading 'Symbols and Abbreviations'. All nomenclature should follow estab-lished rules where these are available. Abbreviations are not acceptable in the title or abstract. Non-standard units must be defined.
Reference style. References should be cited by superscript numbers and listed at the end of the paper in the order in which they appear in the text. All references must be complete and accurate. Authors should cite all available published work. Online citations should include date of access. If necessary, cite unpublished or personal work in the text but do not include them in the reference list. References should be listed in the following style:
- Lüssem G, Wendorff JH. Encapsulation of Calcium Carbonate by Styrene Polymerization. Polym. Adv. Technol. 1998; 9:443.
- Bird RB, Armstrong RC, Hassager O. Dynamics of Polymeric Liquids, Vol. 1: Fluid Mechanics, 2nd edn, 1985. Wiley, New York.
Illustrations. Supply each illustration on a separate sheet, with the lead author’s name, figure number and orientation on the reverse. Supply original photographs; photocopies or previ-ously printed material will not be used. Line artwork must be high-quality laser output (not photocopies). Use hatching, not tints; lettering must be of a reasonable size that would still be clearly legible in case of reduction, and consistent within each figure and set of figures. Electronic versions of the artwork should be supplied at the intended size for printing.
Part of the cost of printing colour illustrations in the journal will be charged to the author. The charge for printing colour illustrations is ?50 per page. If colour illustrations are supplied electronically in either TIFF or EPS format, they may be used in the PDF of the article at no cost to the author, even if this illustration was printed in black and white in the journal. The PDF will appear on the Wiley InterScience website.
Copyright. In order to enable the publisher to disseminate the author’s work to the fullest extent, the author must sign a Copyright Transfer Agreement, transferring copyright in the article from the author to the publisher, and submit the original signed agreement with the article presented for publication. A copy of the agreement to be used (which may be photocopied) can be found in each volume of Polymers for Advanced Technologies. Copies may also be obtained from the journal editor or publisher, or may be printed from this website.
Further information. Typeset proofs will be sent to the author for checking. This stage is to be used only to correct errors that may have been introduced during the production process. Prompt return of the corrected proofs, preferably within two days of receipt, will minimise the risk of the paper being held over to a later issue. The 25 complimentary offprints will be provided to the author who checked the proofs, unless otherwise indicated. Further offprints or copies of the Journal may be ordered. There is no page charge to authors.
