All submitted material will be subject to copyediting. Before publication, page proofs will be forwarded to the designated author who will bear responsibility for the final manuscript contents, including all copyediting changes. There will be a $40 charge per printed page (or portion thereof) for manuscripts that are accepted for publication. Costs for changes or additions made by the author that exceed 10% of article length will be charged to the author.

Manuscripts should be typewritten, readily legible, in English, and sent in triplicate; the original copy must be included. A complete copy of manuscripts should be retained by the author, although great precaution will be taken to protect the material from loss, PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGY will not be responsible for loss of manuscripts.

Manuscripts should be double-spaced on white paper approximately 8.5 inches x 11 inches. Margins of approximately 1.5 inches should be placed at the sides, top, and bottom. The upper right corner of each sheet should bear the last name of the first author and consecutive page numbers. The sequence should be: title page, abstract, text, acknowledgments, references, tables and legends.

The title on the title page should contain no more than 75 letters and spaces. Each author's first and last name as well as middle initial, highest academic degree, name of department(s) and institutions to which the work should be attributed, and address should appear. (When 7 or more authors are listed, the first 3 with the addition of "and others" may be printed on the cover and table of contents page to conserve space.) A running title of no more than 35 letters and spaces should be supplied. The author to whom communications will be directed should be designated and his or her telephone and FAX numbers provided.

The abstract should be no longer than 200 words for full length articles and commensurately shorter for brief communications and case reports. Abstracts should summarize the problem addressed, investigational approach, results, and relevant conclusions.

In the body of the text, internal headings should be employed to clarify and organize the presentation. All references, illustrations, and tables must be cited in the text. References will be identified in the text by placement of the appropriate numbersin brackets. Footnotes must appear on the same manuscript page where cited.

References must be double-spaced, listed sequentially in order of appearance in the manuscript, and numbered. The style described in Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals (British Medical Journal 1991; 302:338-41) will be employed. For citation of journal articles provide: all authors, title, journal name (Index Medicus abbreviation), year, volume number, and initial and last page numbers. For citation of book references provide: all authors, chapter title, all editors, book title, edition number (if not the first), city of publication, publisher, year, volume number (if appropriate), and initial and last page numbers. A copy of any reference designated as submitted for publication must accompany the manuscript.

Figure legends should be typed (double-spaced) on separate, consecutively numbered sheets. Legends and figures should not be attached to one another.

Figures should be camera-ready, submitted in triplicate, unmounted, and untrimmed. Pertinent information (i.e., number, author name, and up-oriented arrow) should be written on an adhesive label and affixed to the back of the illustration. Each figure must be numbered. Photocopies, paper copies, or original art work are not acceptable. PEDIATRIC NEUROLOGY will not be responsible for redrawing or improving submitted drawings. Label lettering should be produced by template. Color illustrations or photographs will be accepted if appropriate. The author will bear the cost of color publication ($950 for the color illustration on each page and $150 for every additional color illustration on the same page). Color photographs should be accompanied by protectively wrapped positive color transparencies.

Tables must be double-spaced. Data in tables should not be repeated in graphs. Pages containing tabular material should be numbered consecutively with the text. A table title and number must be provided at the top. Headings should be concise. Tables should be restricted to one manuscript page unless absolutely necessary. If a table occupies more than one manuscript page, identifying material must appear at the top of the additional page: all headings and items in the left-side column should be repeated.

Photographs of identifiable subjects must be accompanied with signed permission from patient or legal representative authorizing publication. Photographs in which face or eyes are covered are unacceptable.

Submitted material published elsewhere (i.e., illustrations, tables, or narrative or 100 words or more) should be accompanied by a written permission for publication from both the publisher and the author.

Reprints may be ordered prior to publication on the form provided. The designated reviewing author will be responsible for ordering reprints for all authors. Reprints ordered after publication of the journal can be ordered at increased cost by special arrangement.
