An International Journal
This timely publication reports and reviews current findings on the effects of nutrition on the etiology, therapy, and prevention of cancer. Etiological issues include clinical and experimental research in nutrition, carcinogenesis, epidemiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Coverage of therapy focuses on research in clinical nutrition and oncology, dietetics, and bioengineering. Prevention approaches discussed include public health recommendations, preventative medicine, behavior modification, education, functional foods, and agricultural and food production policies.
Audience : Oncologists, behavioral medicine specialists, cell biologists, epidemiologists, molecular biologists, and clinical nutritionists/dieticians.

Instructions to Authors
Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, Inc. welcomes manuscripts of the following types for publication in NUTRITION AND CANCER: AN INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL. 1) Original papers containing results of experimental, clinical, or statistical studies that are timely and well documented. 2) Letters to the Editor that deal with issues of importance to researchers in the field of nutrition and cancer. Experimental data should be the minimal amount required for adequate understanding. 3) Reviews on subjects of importance to researchers in the field of nutrition and cancer. 4) Brief reports of meetings and proceedings of symposia related to cancer research. 5) Announcements of future meetings of interest to readers: courses in cancer-related biomedical science, or the availability of fellowships; and listings of relevant books and other publications. Announcements should be submitted at least six (6) months prior to date of issue. All papers and other submissions will be sent to two or more editors for peer review. Manuscripts should be sent to NUTRITION AND CANCER: AN INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL, c/o Kathy Dolan, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates, 10 Industrial Ave., Mahwah, NJ 07430-2262. The address to which page proofs and correspondence should be sent must be specified. Include phone, fax, and e-mail information. Include verification that the article has not been submitted concurrently to any other journals. Manuscripts will not be returned. Manuscripts should be typed on 8 1/2 x 11" paper with double spacing throughout, allowing for ample margins. Submit one (1) original and five (5) copies; a disk in Word or ASCII format should be submitted along with the manuscript. The manuscript should be organized in the following manner: title page, abstract, text, acknowledgments and notes, references, appendixes, tables, figure captions, copies of all figures, and two sets of original figures. Also submit two (2) sets of complete illustrations. Consecutive numbering of all pages is requested, with the title page as page one. Title page should provide the name of author and co-authors. The first author's last name plus the page number belong in the upper right corner of each page. Figure legends should be typed on a separate sheet, double-spaced in consecutive order. The author must obtain permission from the previous author and copyright holder to reproduce illustrations published previously and acknowledgment should be listed in the legend. Table data should be formatted with the first entry of each row beginning flush left, followed by a tab insert. Subsequent entries should be separated by a single tab. Columns and rows should be made visibly distinct. If you are using the table editor in your word processing program, table cells should read from left to right. Do not rotate text within cells (i.e., reading from bottom of page to top) and do not add extra paragraph returns within cells. Such tables will have to be rekeyed, causing a possible delay in publication and increased chance for error. If landscape layout is necessary to accommodate table size, set table in a separate file and select landscape while defining page setup properties in your word processor. Authors are urged to include their full names, complete with first and middle initials to avoid confusion which often arises when authors are identified by surname and initials only. Authors' academic degrees should not be included. The full names of institutions and subsidiary laboratories should be given, along with a useful address (including postal number). If several authors (maximum 10 authors) and institutions are listed, it should be clearly indicated with which institution each author is affiliated. For text style and references, authors should follow Scientific Style and Format: The CBE Manual for Authors, Editors, and Publishers (6th edition, 1994) in matters of spelling, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, and general style; Current Procedural Terminology and International Classification of Diseases for terms relating to diseases, operations, and procedures; IUPAC-IAB Combined Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature for chemical and biochemical terms and abbreviations; and Index Medicus for journal abbreviations in references. Metric equivalents are preferred. The hospital or academic institution and city where the work was done; the source of financial support; an acknowledgment (if desired) of those who aided in research and preparation of the manuscript; and a mailing address for reprints (if available) should appear at the end of the text (before references). All trade names of drugs should be referenced with the generic name and the name, city, and state of the manufacturer. Line art accompanying papers should be supplied as clear, black-and-white printouts on 8 1/2 x 11" bond paper. Photographs should be mounted on plates of white cardboard; the overall dimensions of photographs on a given plate should not exceed 18.4 x 22.4 cm (7 1/4 x 9"). All photographs should be correctly exposed, sharply focused, and submitted on glossy white paper. Photographed electrophoretic patterns should be as small as possible to avoid the need for returning them to the author for reduction. Do not submit bar graphs with more than one shade of gray; gray tint must be easily distinguishable from black tint. Patterns (hatched, cross hatched, dots) or solid black and white are preferable to gray tints. Because halftone illustrations (photomicrographs and photographs) are expensive to reproduce, only those photographs that are absolutely essential to the clarity of the presentation can be accepted. Color photographs can be published only if after careful evaluation they are accepted by the editors and the complete expense of reproducing and tipping in the color pages is received in full in advance from the author. Current estimates for color reproduction can be obtained by corresponding with the publisher. Several stylistic items are commonly overlooked by authors, thus entailing wasted time and expense at the processing and publication stages. Authors may find it helpful to refer to the following checklist before transmitting manuscripts to our office. 1) Manuscript submitted with five copies (include tables and figures) and two sets of original illustrations. 2) Grant information, if appropriate. 3) Exact affiliation of each author given. 4) Abstract included (200 words maximum). 5) All nonstandard abbreviations defined. 6) Exact location (city and state, or country) supplied for sources of special chemicals or preparations. 7) All references listed in order of appearance and typed double-spaced. Reprint request forms, mailed to authors with page proofs, must be accompanied by proofs. Reprints are offered only at this time.
