Instructions to Authors

Wiley's Journal Styles and EndNote

Neurourology & Urodynamics welcomes submitted manuscripts online at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/neurourol.

Authors are encouraged to check for an existing account. If you are submitting for the first time, and you do not have an existing account, then create a new account. Once you have logged in, you will be presented with the Main Menu and a link to your Author Center. Enter your Author Center to submit your manuscript. At the end of a successful submission, a confirmation screen with manuscript number will appear and you will receive an e-mail confirming that the manuscript has been received by the journal. If this does not happen, please check your submission and/or contact our Help Desk at edsupport@wiley.com.

Editorial Office: Jerry G. Blaivas, M.D., Editor-in-Chief, Neurourology & Urodynamics, 445 East 77th Street, New York, NY 10021; Fax: 212-308-8933; E-mail: NeuroUrol@rcn.com.

Articles should contain the following elements:

TITLE PAGE. This should contain the complete title of the paper, the names, the titles, and affiliations of all authors; the institution at which the work was performed; the name, address, and telephone number for all correspondence; and a short title to be used as a running head.

ABSTRACT. This should be an actual condensation of the entire work and formatted as follows: 1) Aims, 2) Methods, 3) Results, 4) Conclusions. The abstract should not exceed 250 words. List any special abbreviations used in the text, including those used in figures and legends, on the abstract page.

KEY WORDS. Supply a list of key words or phrases (not in the title) that will adequately index the subject matter of the article.

TEXT. The text should follow the format: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions. Use subheadings and paragraph titles whenever possible. Place Acknowledgments as the last element of the text, before References. Authors whose first language is not English should arrange for the manuscript to be written in idiomatic English prior to submission. American or English style is acceptable. If photographs of human subjects are used, a copy of the signed consent form must accompany the manuscript. Letters of permission must be submitted with any material that has previously been published.

REFERENCES.

Wiley's Journal Styles Are Now in EndNote
EndNote is a software product that we recommend to our journal authors to help simplify and streamline the research process. Using EndNote's bibliographic management tools, you can search bibliographic databases, build and organize your reference collection, and then instantly output your bibliography in any Wiley journal style.
Download Reference Style for this Journal: If you already use EndNote, you can download the reference style for this journal.
How to Order: To learn more about EndNote, or to purchase your own copy, click here.
Technical Support: If you need assistance using EndNote, contact endnote@isiresearchsoft.com, or visit www.endnote.com/support.

References should be prepared according to CBE style. Refer to the CBE Style Manual, 6th edition (Cambridge University Press). References in the text are cited by the first author's last name and the date in parentheses. The final list should be in alphabetical order and must include full article titles and inclusive page numbers. Abbreviate journal names according to the Index Medicus style. Note the following examples:

Journal article
Tunn R, Paris S, Fischer W, Hamm B, Kuchinke J. 1998. Static magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvic floor muscle morphology in women with stress urinary incontinence and pelvic prolapse. Neurourol Urodynam 17:579¨C589.

Book
Voet D, Voet JG. 1990. Biochemistry. New York: John Wiley & Sons. 1223 p.

Book chapter
Gilmor ML, Rouse ST, Heilman CJ, Nash NR, Levey AI. 1998. Receptor fusion proteins and analysis. In: Ariano MA, editor. Receptor localization. New York: Wiley-Liss. p 75¨C90.

MANUSCRIPT: For optimal production, prepare manuscript text in size 12 font on 8-1/2 x 11 inch page, with at least 1 inch margins on all sides.

ILLUSTRATIONS: When preparing digital art, please consider:

Resolution:

The minimum requirements for resolution are:

  • 1200 DPI/PPI for black and white images, such as line drawings or graphs.
  • 300 DPI/PPI for picture-only photographs
  • 600 DPI/PPI for photographs containing pictures and line elements, i.e., text labels, thin lines, arrows.

These resolutions refer to the output size of the file; if you anticipate that your images will be enlarged or reduced, resolutions should be adjusted accordingly.

Formats:

For the editorial review process, GIF, JPEG files are welcome; upon acceptance, EPS or TIFF files will be required. For the editorial review process, color images may be submitted in RGB color; upon acceptance, CMYK color will be required. Delivery of production-quality files early in the review process may facilitate smooth and rapid publication once a manuscript has been accepted.

A legend must be provided for each illustration and must define all abbreviations used therein. Legends should be placed at the end of the manuscript text file. Please be sure to submit your illustrations and tables as separate files. Tables are to be numbered in order with Roman numerals, figures in Arabic.

Four-color illustrations will be considered for print publication. However, the author will be required to bear the cost of their reproduction. The charge for one page of color is $950. Second, and subsequent pages, up to four, will cost $500 each. If photographs of identifiable human subjects are used, a copy of the signed consent form must accompany the manuscript.

All color figures will be reproduced in full color in the online edition of the journal at no cost to authors. As noted previously, authors are requested to pay the cost of reproducing color figures in print. Authors are encouraged to submit color illustrations that highlight the text and convey essential scientific information. For best reproduction, bright, clear colors should be used. Dark colors against a dark background do not reproduce well; please place your color images against a white background wherever possible. Please contact Mary Beth Puccio at 201-748-8873 (e-mail: mpuccio@wiley.com) for further information.

CATEGORY OF SUBMISSIONS. The Journal accepts papers prepared in any one of the following forms:

State of the art review articles. Review articles will be solicited by a panel of editors or may be submitted directly to the editor by the author. They are designed to provide an up-to-date review of the most modern and reasonable approach to a particular topic by a recognized expert in the field. They represent the authors' editorial point of view rather than a litany of dogma or an exhaustive compilation of all prior work in that field.

Original basic science articles, including theses, and original clinical articles. Only those articles that meet the high standards of the editorial board will be published in this section. When received, papers are reviewed by an associate editor, who will select two additional referees for final review.

Preliminary reports. A paper may be submitted directly as a preliminary report, or an article submitted as an original publication may be selected by the editors for publication as a preliminary report.

Controversies in neurourology. Controversial topics will be presented by two or more authors who take different points of view. The authors will be solicited by a panel of editors.

Computer applications. Innovative computerized approaches to neurourology and urodynamics, including software, may be submitted for publication in this section.

Case reports. Interesting case reports may not exceed eight double-spaced typewritten pages.

Letters to the editor. Pertinent letters of interest to the readership should not exceed three double-spaced, typewritten pages.

All manuscripts submitted to Neurourology and Urodynamics must be submitted solely to this journal and may not have been published in any part or form in another publication of any type, professional or lay, and become the property of the publisher. On acceptance of a manuscript for publication, authors will be asked to transfer copyright to the publisher, who reserves copyright. No published material may be reproduced or published elsewhere without the written permission of the publisher and the author. The Journal will not be responsible for the loss of manuscripts at any time. All statements in, or omissions from, published manuscripts are the responsibility of the authors, who will assist the editors by reviewing proofs before publication. Reprint order forms will be sent with the proofs. No page charges will be levied against authors or their institutions for publication in this journal.
