About the journal
Neural Computation
|
Neural Computation disseminates important, multidisciplinary research results and reviews of research areas in neural computation-a field that attracts psychologists, physicists, computer scientists, neuroscientists, and artificial intelligence investigators, among others. For researchers looking at the twin scientific and engineering challenges of understanding the brain and building computers, it highlights common problems and techniques in modeling the brain, and the design and construction of neurally inspired information processing systems. Timely, short communications, full-length research articles, and reviews focus on important advances and also cover the broad range of inquisition into neural computation.

Instructions to Authors
Notes. Brief but timely announcements of technical results, no more than 1,000 words and one figure. Letters. Short summaries of original research, containing up to 4,000 words, up to six figures, and 50 citations. Views. Invited mini-reviews of important research, usually no longer than 8,000 words and containing no more than 12 figures, and 100 citations.
Articles. Major advances, with up to 16,000 words, 12 figures, and 100 citations.
Reviews. Comprehensive overviews which summarize significant advances in a broad area of research, with up to 32,000 words, 16 figures, and 200 citations.
General Instructions Submissions: Original papers and outlines for possible reviews should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief. Submit manuscripts as follows: Three copies, single-sided, double-spaced (4 lines per vertical inch) with 1 3/8 inch margins. Please use a 12 point font on the entire manuscript, including abstract, footnotes, and figure captions. Figures must be included with each copy of the manuscript.
Cover Letter: Include the following in your cover letter:
1. The title of the paper;
2. Name, address, phone, fax, and e-mail for all authors;
3. A statement that none of the material has been published or is under consideration for publication elsewhere.
E-mail submissions are not accepted.
References: must be cited by name and date and listed in alphabetical order (not numbered). Do not use in-text codes. All in-text references must be according to APA style, giving the author last name and publication date (e.g., Darwin and Spencer, 1998). Refer to the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA) for further reference guidelines.
Color Charge: There will be a charge of $1,000 per page for color plates. Please indicate in your submission letter your agreement to pay this charge.
At the Time of Acceptance: You will be asked to send two hard copies of your manuscript and figures to the Editorial Office as well as a digital version of your manuscript and PDF files for your figures to nc-ms@salk.edu using the guidelines provided below. The hard copies and electronic version must exactly match the accepted manuscript, and the figures may not be changed in any way with the exception of removing extraneous information. Careful attention to these guidelines will ensure that your manuscript will be processed in a timely manner.
Manuscript Hard Copy: Send two hard copies of your manuscript, with figures included, and two additional sets of figures as outlined below.
Figures Hard Copy:
Send two additional sets of high-quality figures separate from the manuscript. In order to ensure consistent results, these figures must be printed from the PDF files you are sending and not from any other application.
Print figures on white paper, single-sided, one complete figure per page.
Figures must be sized to the journal page; 4 1/4?(width) SPAN> 7(height).
Label figures in Helvetica or other san serif font in a size that is clearly readable.
Particular attention should be paid to the font size for super and subscript.
Be sure that line settings and plotting symbols are no smaller than one point.
When a figure has multiple parts, all parts must appear on one page. Multi-part figures must be appropriately marked: etc.
Mark each complete figure on the front, below the figure, with figure number, last name of first author, and manuscript number. Label placement will be used to determine the orientation of the figure.
Manuscript Electronic: The preferred format is TeX. Standard compression and encoding is acceptable.Word-processed files are also acceptable. References must be included within the manuscript. Please use the following example in the subject line of your e-mail to identify the contents of your manuscript file: NECO/Last name of first author/ Manuscript number/Content Example: NECO/Smith/Ms.1007/Text/Ref
Figures Electronic:
Send figure files in PDF format only one complete figure per page, in the order they appear in the manuscript. These files must match the printed version of the figures provided with your accepted manuscript.
To create files, use a version of PDF that is 3.0 compatible.
Each figure must appear complete, with no figure caption, figure number, or other extraneous information.
All fonts must be embedded within the figure.
Only figures that are to appear in color may be submitted in color.
Color figures must be saved as cmyk. Please use the following example in the subject line of your e-mail to identify the contents: NECO/ Last name of first author/ Manuscript number/Content Example: NECO/Smith/Ms. 1007/Figures
