About the journal

Nematology

International Journal of Fundamental and Applied Nematological Research

Nematology is an international journal for the publication of all aspects of nematological research, from molecular biology to field studies. Papers on nematode parasites and anthropods, and on soil free-living nematodes, and on interactions of these and other organisms, are particularly welcome. Research on fresh water and marine nematodes is also considered when the observations are of more general interest.
Nematology publishes full research papers, short communications, foresight articles (which permit an author to express a view on current or fundamental subjects), abstracts of nematology meetings, full communications at nematology symposia, reviews of books and other media, announcements of nematological activities and societies.

Indexed/Abstracted in: Biological Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts, Current Contents/Agriculture, Biology and Environmental Sciences, Current Advances in Ecological and Environmental Sciences, Ecological Abstracts, Geo Abstracts, Science Citation Index, Zoological Record.

Instructions to Authors

Notice to contributors
Papers (three identical copies) should be sent to the following address:

VSP

(a subsidiary of Brill Academic Publishers)

Editorial Office Nematology,

P.O. Box 346,

3700 AH Zeist,

The Netherlands

e-mail: Nematology@Brill.nl

Receipt of manuscripts will be acknowledged. Each manuscript will be reviewed by two members of the Editorial Board or other recognised authorities in the field.

Electronic submissions are specifically encouraged. For the initial submission of manuscripts for consideration, hard copies are sufficient. For the processing of accepted papers, electronic versions are preferred. After final acceptance, your disk plus two, final and exactly matching printed versions should be submitted together. It is important that the file is saved both in the original format of the word processing package and also in rtf-format. Label the disk with the name of the computer and word processing package used, your name, and the name of the file on the disk, and the Nematology ms reference number.

Well-presented scripts, which conform to the journal's format and are internally consistent in style are much easier to review and edit and therefore likely to be published more readily. Observations and data may be presented in the text, in Tables, or in Figures, but should not be repeated; details of statistical procedures must be included.

Authors should send three copies, printed or typed, preferably with numbered lines, double spaced with 30 mm margins. Papers must be written in English, French or German, and include a translation of the Summary into one of the other two languages. The Editors will arrange for this translation if this is requested by the authors. Pages should be numbered consecutively.

The first page will contain the title, the complete name(s) of the author(s), their professional postal and email addresses. Please, clearly indicate the author for correspondence. The second page will contain a summary of no more than 150 words, and keywords or short phrases, not including any used in the title. The text of the manuscript will begin at the next page and consist of an introduction, without heading, and then Materials and Methods, Results or Descriptions, Discussion, Acknowledgements, References, Tables, Figure legends and Figures. Papers should be clearly structured with headings numbered.

Taxonomic papers must include full citations of all works relevant to nematode descriptions, except those which are not the principal subject of the paper. This is not usually necessary in general research papers, although the principal organisms should be given taxonomic authorities in the text. In taxonomic papers, slides with specimens must be sent if requested by referees, and type specimens must be deposited in at least one well-recognised international nematode collection.

References follow the Harvard System: begin with authors' names (lower case) and initials, year of publication, full title of periodical, volume and page numbers. E.g.:

Rahimi, S., Perry, R.N. & Wright, D.J. (1993). Identification of pathogenesis-related proteins induced in leaves of potato plants infected with potato cyst nematodes, Globodera species. Physiological and Molecular Plant Pathology 49, 24-31.

Give book titles in full, with place of publication then name of publisher and number of pages. Theses are described as books. E.g.:

Bird, A.F. (1971). The structure of nematodes. New York & London, Academic Press, v + 318 pp.

For articles in books, give authors and article title, followed by In: editors' names, book title, place of publication then publisher, and page numbers of article. E.g.:

Ferris, H. (1985). Crop loss prediction and modelling for management decisions. In: Zuckerman, B.M., Mai, W.F. & Harisson, M.B. (Eds). Plant Nematology Laboratory Manual. Amherst, University of Massachusetts Agricultural Experimental Station. pp. 27-33.

References to abstracts should end with [Abstr.]

References to translations should list the title of the article between square brackets [...]

Tables should be presented one per page, numbered as Table 1 (lower case, arabic numbers) et seq.

Illustrations should be supplied as good quality photocopies, numbered as Fig. 1 et seq. and with a separate page giving the full list of figure legends, which should include any necessary keys to symbols. Drawings, with clear cut lines, and high contrast photographs (from prints or negatives) will be reduced to a maximum printed page size 170 tex2html_wrap_inline2843 210 mm, including legend. Photocopies submitted should represent accurately the final printed figure. The Editors will advise when and how to send original figures. Figures can also be sent in electronic form (preferably PDF or TIF format). Scale bars on each figure or photograph should be included to indicate magnification/reduction. Colour plates can be printed if authors are willing to pay the additional printing costs: authors should discuss this with the Editors.

Authors must ensure they have the consent of all co-authors and any necessary authority for submission. The script must not be submitted to any other journal whilst it is being considered for publication in Nematology. Upon acceptance, authors will be asked to assign copyright to Nematology: The Editors will ensure that all reasonable requests to reproduce articles are granted.

Authors are responsible for correcting any errors on the first proof, and reminded that the publisher reserves the right to charge for changes made at that stage, other than to correct printer's errors.

Fifty reprints of each article are provided without charge. Additional copies may be ordered at cost only by returning the order form supplied with the proofs.

A system of ``Rush publication' gives authors the option to shorten publication time by paying a page charge. Please consult the Editorial Office or one of the Editors for detailed information on ``Rush publication' procedures.

There is no charge for regular publication in Nematology.

Copies of the detailed guidelines are available from the Editorial Office at the address given above.
