About the journal

Molecular Biotechnology

Molecular Biotechnology publishes original research papers on the application of molecular biology techniques to both basic and applied research in the field of biotechnology. Particular areas of interest include the following: stability and expression of cloned gene products, cell transformation, gene cloning systems and the production of recombinant proteins, protein purification and analysis, transgenic species, the applications of DNA fingerprinting and PCR technology, microarray technology, proteomics, mass spctrometry, bioinformatics, plant molecular biology, gene probes and the diagnosis of disease, pharmaceutical and health care products, therapeutic agents, vaccines, gene targeting, gene therapy, antisense technology, protein engineering and enzyme technology, monoclonal antibodies, abzymes, glycobiology, and agricultural biotechnology. Review articles on subjects in these areas are also welcome. The journal contains the following features: Research articles: Where possible these should be presented in the following format: Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion; and should conform to the "Information for Authors" listed below. Manuscripts should not exceed 12 double-spaced typewritten pages. Reviews in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology: Authors are free to choose the most appropriate format for their subject matter. There is no restriction on the length of such articles, although normally we expect them to average 10?0 double-spaced typewritten pages. Protocols in Molecular Biology: These are detailed laboratory protocols for specific techniques in the same format used in the Methods in Molecular Biology series published by Humana Press. Papers describing both new protocols, as well as existing established techniques, or modifications of such techniques, are welcome.

Instructions to Authors

Online Manuscript Submission

Springer now offers authors, editors, and reviewers of Molecular Biotechnology the use of our fully web-enabled online manuscript submission and review system. To keep the review time as short as possible, we request authors to submit manuscripts online to the journal’s editorial office. Our online manuscript submission and review system offers authors the option of tracking the progress of the review process of manuscripts in real time. Manuscripts should be submitted to: http://mobi.edmgr.com
The online manuscript submission and review system for Molecular Biotechnology offers easy and straightforward log-in and submission procedures. This system supports a wide range of submission file formats: for manuscripts, Word, WordPerfect, RTF, TXT, and LaTex; for figures, TIFF, GIF, JPEG, EPS, PPT, and Postscript. PDF is not an acceptable file format.
Note: In case you encounter any difficulties while submitting your manuscript online, please get in touch with the responsible Editorial Assistant by clicking on “CONTACT US” from the tool bar.
Authors are requested to download the Consent to Publish and Transfer of Copyright form from the journal’s online submission system (see the URL provided above). Please send a completed and duly signed form either by mail or fax to the Editorial Office of Molecular Biotechnology as instructed on the form. Authors should still follow the regular instructions for authors when preparing their manuscripts (see below).

Manuscripts

  • Type manuscript in English, double-spaced on con¬sec¬u¬tively numbered pages with 1- to 1.5-in. margins.
  • The level of English in manuscripts must be of a standard suitable for publication. Manuscripts not having an acceptable level of English will not be reviewed. Authors who do not have English as their first language are therefore requested to consider seeking help from a native English speaker in preparing their manuscript.
Abstracts
Abstracts should be 100–200 words.
Index Entries
Include 5–10 index entries/key words.

Artwork

  • Number figures consecutively with Arabic numerals, callouts (if any) should be capital letters. Include figure captions. All figures must be cited in text; figures will be placed as close as possible to the first text citation. Include figure captions on a separate manuscript page after references. Define all symbols and abbreviations used in the figure. . Electronic version of all illustrations, including chem¬i¬cal structures, must be provided.
  • Acceptable Software Formats: Adobe Illustrator versions 5 and up; Macromedia Freehand version 8; Adobe Photoshop versions 5 and up. Acceptable File Formats: EPS (Encapsulated Postscript), TIFF, JPEG (high-quality, low-compression) and those native software formats listed above. Unfortunately we cannot accept Microsoft PowerPoint files at this time.
  • DPI Specifications: Line art should be no less than 1200 dpi; halftone scans should be 300 dpi.
  • Color art cannot be accepted unless the author is willing to assume the additional production costs involved; quotes given on request.

Nomenclature

Authors should follow the recommendations of the IUPAC-IUB Commission on Biochemical Nomenclature. All abbreviations should be fully defined in the text.

Tables

Type on separate pages. Number consecutively with Arabic numerals in ord¬er of mention in the text. All Tables must be cited sequentially in text. Provide titles for all tables.

References

Cite in the text by bold italic Arabic numerals in parentheses, set on the text line, numbered in the order they appear. List at the end of the paper in consecutive order. Please follow the style indicated below:
