About the journal

Journal of Polymer Science (in Two Sections)

The Journal of Polymer Science publishes results of fundamental research in all areas of synthetic and natural polymer chemistry and physics. The Journal is selective in accepting contributions on the basis of merit and originality. It is not intended as a repository for unevaluated data. Preference is given to contributions that offer new or more comprehensive concepts, interpretations, experimental approaches, and results.

Part B: Polymer Physics accepts contributions in physics and physical chemistry. Contributions may be submitted as Regular Articles, as Rapid Communications, or as Notes. Regular articles are full length papers to be considered as complete publications of original unpublished results. Rapid Communications refer to mostly preliminary reports of extreme urgency, significance and originality, which should be limited to a maximum of 3 printed pages. Papers to be submitted for consideration as Notes should be short versions of Regular Articles.

THIS JOURNAL DOES NOT CARRY A PAGE CHARGE FOR CONTRIBUTIONS

Aims and Scope: Since its launch in 1946 by P.M. Doty, H. Mark and C.C. Price, the Journal of Polymer Science has provided a continuous forum for the dissemination of thoroughly peer-reviewed, fundamental, international research into the preparation and properties of macromolecules. The journal is selective in accepting contributions on the basis of merit and originality. It is not intended as a repository for unevaluated data. Preference is given to contributions that offer new or more comprehensive concepts, interpretations, experimental approaches, and results.

Part B: Polymer Physics accepts contributions in physics and physical chemistry of polymers. Contributions may be submitted as Original Articles or as Letters.

Original Articles are full-length papers to be considered as complete publications of original unpublished results.

Letters refer to breaking developments in polymer physics, which should be limited to a maximum of 4 printed pages. Letters must be submitted online and can be no longer than 4 to 6 double-spaced manuscript pages. If figures are included, reduce manuscript page count by one-half for each image.

In addition, the journal will publish invited highlight/review articles by experts, which will focus attention on evolving areas of polymer physics.

  1. In taking a step toward facilitating seamless international scholarly communication, the Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics is pleased to offer web-based submissions and peer review. To submit your manuscript online, please:

    • Prepare your manuscript and illustrations in the appropriate format, according to the instructions given at http://jpolb-wiley.manuscriptcentral.com under the ¡°Instructions and Forms¡± button. Please also be sure that your paper conforms to the scientific and style instructions of the journal, given below.

    • At the site check to see if you already have an account with the journal by clicking on the ¡°Check for Existing Account¡± button. If you do not have an account, you can create one for yourself in the system at the submission site by clicking on the ¡°Create an Account¡± button. Subsequently, to monitor the progress of your manuscript throughout the review process, just login periodically and check your Author Center.

    • Please be sure to study the Instructions and Forms given at the site carefully, and then let the system guide you through the submission process. Online help is available to you at all times during the process. You are also able to exit/re-enter the process at any stage before finally ¡°submitting¡± your work.

    • All submissions are kept strictly confidential. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us at jpsphys@wiley.com

    • Hard copy submissions may be sent to the Journal Administration Office, Attn: Jeanine Jordan, Assistant Managing Editor, Journal of Polymer Science Part B: Polymer Physics, c/o John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 111 River Street, Hoboken, NJ 07030.

  2. Manuscripts should be submitted typed double spaced throughout and on one side of each sheet only. For online submissions, please place your figures immediately following the paragraph in which the figure is first mentioned, followed by its legend. For hard copy submissions, please place the figure callout and legend immediately following the paragraph in which the figure is first mentioned. Note that submission files are for peer review only; the publisher requires placement of figure legends separately at the end of the manuscript, manuscript hard copy, digital manuscript file, high-resolution image files, and confirming image hard copies for print reproduction.

Authors in Japan, please note: Wiley-Japan can provide authors in Japan with a list of recommended services to check and improve the English in their papers BEFORE SUBMISSION. Please contact Masayo Kobayashi in the Wiley-Japan office by fax: 81 (03) 3556¨C9763 or e-mail: editorial@wiley.co.jp for more information, stating the Wiley journal to which you would like to submit your paper.

  3. No article can be published unless accompanied by a signed publication agreement, which serves as a transfer of copyright from author to publisher. The Copyright Transfer Agreement is available at http://www.interscience.wiley.com/jpages/0887¨C6266/wiley-l.pdf and appears in most issues of the journal. Only original papers will be accepted and copyright in published papers will be vested in the publisher. It is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce material that has appeared in another publication. If the paper is a ¡°work made for hire,¡± the Copyright Transfer Agreement must be signed by the employer.

  4. A short synopsis (maximum length 200 words) is required for Original Articles and Highlights. A synopsis of not more than 100 words is required for Letters; the synopsis text does not count toward the maximum manuscript page count for Letters. Authors submitting Letters should clearly identify them as such and explain why they merit rapid publication. The synopsis should be a summary of the entire paper, not the conclusions alone.

  5. The paper should be reasonably subdivided into sections and, if necessary, subsections. Please refer to any issue of this journal for examples.

  6. Wiley's Journal Styles Are Now in EndNote
EndNote is a software product that we recommend to our journal authors to help simplify and streamline the research process. Using EndNote's bibliographic management tools, you can search bibliographic databases, build and organize your reference collection, and then instantly output your bibliography in any Wiley journal style.
Download Reference Style for this Journal: If you already use EndNote, you can download the reference style for this journal.
How to Order: To learn more about EndNote, or to purchase your own copy, click here.
Technical Support: If you need assistance using EndNote, contact endnote@isiresearchsoft.com, or visit www.endnote.com/support.

The references should be numbered consecutively in the order of their appearance and should be complete, including authors' initials and¡ªfor unpublished lectures or symposia¡ªthe title of the paper, the date, and the name of the sponsoring society. Each reference should include only one cited source; please do not reference multiple works under a single number using (a), (b), (c), etc. Please compile references on a separate sheet at the end of the manuscript. Abbreviations of journal titles should conform to the practices of Chemical Abstracts. Note the following examples:

    Book:
Cornils, B.; Herrmann, W. A. Applied Homogeneous Catalysis with Organometallic Compounds: A Comprehensive Handbook; Wiley-Interscience: New York, 1996; Vol. 2, pp 980¨C991.

Edgar, K. J.; Pecorini, T. J.; Glasser, W. G. In Cellulose and Cellulose Derivative Reactions; American Chemical Society: Washington, DC, 1998; pp 38¨C60.
    Journal Article:
    Bokoi, Y.; Ishiyama, C.; Shimojo, M.; Higo, Y. J Mater Sci 2000, 35, 5001¨C5011.

    Sun, H.; Tang, Y.; Wu, G.; Zhang, F. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys 2002, 40, 454¨C459.
    Conference Proceedings:
Vanderhoff, J. W.; Park, J. M.; El-Aasser, M. S. Polymeric Materials Science and Engineering; Proceedings of the ACS Division of Polymeric Materials: Science and Engineering; American Chemical Society: Washington, DC, 1991; Vol. 64, 345¨C346.

  7. Please supply numbers and titles for all tables. All table columns should have an explanatory heading. As with figures, tables should be placed immediately following the paragraph in which they are first mentioned.

  8. In order to economize printed space, all graphs and photographs should be prepared so that they can normally be printed in a single column. Only if absolutely necessary should figures occupy both columns.

  9. Henceforth, Wiley will fully subsidize the costs of reproducing one color page per article, assuming that the color illustrations are deemed essential for clarity of communication. There will be no charge to authors for the first page of color, regardless of how many figures are published on that page. Additional color pages per article will be published at a nominal charge to authors of $850 for each additional page thereafter unless the article is a Highlight article. Authors of Highlight articles will not be asked to subsidize color reproduction.

  10. Authors may submit color figures for consideration as cover illustrations. These illustrations are related to, but not necessarily included in, their manuscript. Authors should submit a brief caption for their illustration.

  11. Please supply legends for all figures and compile these on a separate sheet of text. Figures and legends should appear separately at the end of the manuscript, not in the body of the manuscript.

  12. It is the author¡¯s responsibility to provide keywords to appear after the synopsis and to be used for the subject index at the end of the volume. To facilitate online searching, the editors of the Wiley polymer journals have complied a common keyword catalog, available in the first issue of every year and at http://www.interscience.wiley.com/jpages/0887¨C6266/keyword.pdf. At least three of the maximum of five keywords assigned to an article must come from this list.

  13. To facilitate our eight-week publication schedule, page proofs in .pdf format will be sent to all corresponding authors providing an e-mail address. Files in this format are viewed using Adobe Acrobat Reader, which is available as a free download at http://www.adobe.com/. Page proofs will be available for review approximately 10 days after acceptance of your article, and you will receive information about file access via e-mail. If you do not wish to receive page proofs in .pdf format, traditional, hard-copy page proofs will be sent via express service. In either case, proof corrections should be returned immediately by fax, e-mail, or express mail. Please notify us of your preferred proof delivery method when submitting your final manuscript.

  14. Corresponding authors will receive 50 reprints of their articles without charge. Additional reprints can be ordered and purchased by filling out the form attached to the page proof.

Manuscripts and illustrations not conforming to the style of this journal will be returned to the author for reworking, thus delaying their appearance.

Disk Submission Instructions

Please return your final, revised manuscript on disk as well as hard copy.
The hard copy must match the disk.

The Journal strongly encourages authors to deliver the final, revised version of their accepted manuscripts (text, tables, and, if possible, illustrations) on disk. Given the near-universal use of computer word-processing for manuscript preparation, we anticipate that providing a disk will be convenient for you, and it carries the added advantages of maintaining the integrity of your keystrokes and expediting typesetting. Please return the disk submission slip below with your manuscript and labeled disk(s).

Guidelines for Electronic Submission

Text
Storage medium. 3-1/2" high-density disk in IBM MS-DOS, Windows, or Macintosh format.

Software and format. Microsoft Word 6.0 is preferred, although manuscripts prepared with any other microcomputer word processor are acceptable. Refrain from complex formatting; the Publisher will style your manuscript according to the Journal design specifications. Do not use desktop publishing software such as Aldus PageMaker or Quark XPress. If you prepared your manuscript with one of these programs, export the text to a word processing format. Please make sure your word processing program's "fast save" feature is turned off. Please do not deliver files that contain hidden text: for example, do not use your word processor's automated features to create footnotes or reference lists.

File names. Submit the text and tables of each manuscript as a single file. Name each file with your last name (up to eight letters). Text files should be given the three-letter extension that identifies the file format. Macintosh users should maintain the MS-DOS "eight dot three" file-naming convention.

Labels. Label all disks with your name, the file name, and the word processing program and version used.

Illustrations
All print reproduction requires files for full color images to be in a CMYK color space. If possible, ICC or ColorSync profiles of your output device should accompany all digital image submissions.

Storage medium. Submit as separate files from text files, on separate disks or cartridges. If feasible, full color files should be submitted on separate disks from other image files. 3-1/2" high-density disks, CD, Iomega Zip, and 5 1/4" 44- or 88-MB SyQuest cartridges can be submitted. At authors' request, cartridges and disks will be returned after publication.

Software and format. All illustration files should be in TIFF or EPS (with preview) formats. Do not submit native application formats.

Resolution. Journal quality reproduction will require greyscale and color files at resolutions yielding approximately 300 ppi. Bitmapped line art should be submitted at resolutions yielding 600-1200 ppi. These resolutions refer to the output size of the file; if you anticipate that your images will be enlarged or reduced, resolutions should be adjusted accordingly.

File names. Illustration files should be given the 2- or 3-letter extension that identifies the file format used (i.e., TIFF/EPS).

Labels. Label all disks and cartridges with your name, the file names, formats, and compression schemes (if any) used. Hard copy output must accompany all files.
