About the journal

The investigation of basic mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of neurological and psychiatric disorders has undoubtedly deepened our knowledge of these types of disorders. The impact of basic neurosciences on the understanding of the pathophysiology of the brain will further increase due to important developments such as the emergence of more specific psychoactive compounds and new technologies. The Journal of Neural Transmission aims to establish an interface between basic sciences and clinical neurology and psychiatry. The journal is published monthly in five sections:

Basic Neurosciences, Genetics and Immunology
This section will accept manuscripts dealing with pharmacological, molecular pharmacological, neurochemical as well as molecular biological and molecular genetical studies related to the nervous system. In particular this section will publish work from the basic neurosciences, i.e. experimental work, animal studies including behavioral short and long term evaluations.

Parkinson's Disease and Allied Conditions,
Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders
Neuroscientific studies, both basic and clinical in nature related to movement disorders such as parkinsonism, dystonia, chorea, myoclonus, etc., will be considered for publication in this section. Manuscripts on the pathobiochemistry, (molecular) pharmacology, molecular biology, genetics and morphobiology of neurotransmission of cortical and subcortical cerebral disorders including dementias and ischemia and their pharmacotherapy, as well as relevant animal experiments and cell culture studies are welcome. Of particular interest are manuscripts on data from connective investigations such as cellular pathobiochemistry and morphology, molecular biology and behavior etc.

Biological Psychiatry
This section is designed to accept manuscripts on biological psychiatry and pharmacopsychiatry in general. Special emphasis is given to work dealing with empirical psychopathology, developmental psychiatric concepts and biochemical as well as molecular biological and genetic studies.

Biological Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
This section includes topics on the biological correlates of developmental psychopathology and on developmental psychopharmacology.
Morphological, electrophysiological, biochemical, molecular biological and genetic studies related to psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents are welcome for publication in this section. Of interest are manuscripts dealing with treatment of psychobiological disorders in children and adolescents.

It is the aim of the editorial board to facilitate publication of the newest developments in the field from all disciplines of the neural sciences that relate to a better understanding and treatment of these disorders..

and attach your file(s). Your manuscript will be sent to the Editor or Editorial Office for this journal.

All Springer-Verlag journals are published using electronic production methods. Therefore we need to receive the electronic files of your article along with a pdf file of the accepted version. On acceptance of your manuscript you will therefore be asked to resubmit the original files for your manuscript and original files of all illustrations. For details on the preferred text and graphics formats please see the detailed Instructions for Authors.

Hardcopy submission

If you are unable to submit your manuscript online or if this journal does not accept online submissions please send your manuscript to the editor in charge of your particular geographic region or sub field as described in the Instructions for Authors.
