About the journal
The Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications presents mathematical papers that treat classical analysis and its numerous applications. The journal emphasizes articles devoted to the mathematical treatment of questions arising in physics, chemistry, biology, and engineering, particularly those that stress analytical aspects and novel problems and their solutions.
Papers are sought which employ one or more of the following areas of classical analysis: Functional analysis Real analysis Complex analysis Inequalities Numerical analysis Differential equations Partial differential equations Difference equations Optimization Control Probability Statistics Combinatorics
Instructions to Authors
SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS
Manuscripts must be submitted in triplicate to:
Journal of Mathematical Analysis and Applications Editorial Office 525 B Street Suite 1900 San Diego, California 92101-4495 U.S.A. Telephone: (619) 699-6297 Fax: (619) 699-6801 E-mail: jmaa@elsevier.com
Authors may suggest an Associate Editor appropriate for the paper; however, assignment to that Associate Editor is not assured. Cognate papers by the same author will not be published in the same issue; such series of papers will be considered only with the understanding that, if accepted, they will not appear in the same issue. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that the same work has not been published, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, and that its submission for publication has been approved by all of the authors and by the institution where the work was carried out; further, that any person cited as a source of personal communications has approved such citation.
Electronic Submission of Manuscripts Authors are requested to transmit the text and art of the manuscript in electronic form, via either computer disk, e-mail, or FTP each time a new version is submitted. Submission as an e-mail attachment is acceptable provided that all files are included in a single archive the size of which does not exceed 2 megabytes. Manuscripts prepared using TeX or LaTeX are welcome; however, LaTeX(2e) is strongly preferred. A LaTeX template for this journal is available at http://www.elsevier.com/locate/latex. Note that the use of other specialized versions of TeX or extensive use of custom macros may necessitate conventional typesetting from the hard-copy manuscript. Hard-copy printouts of the manuscript and art must also be supplied. The manuscript will be edited according to the style of the journal, and authors must read the proofs carefully. Complete instructions for electronic transmission can be found on the Electronic Submission information page.
Copyright Authors submitting a manuscript do so on the understanding that if it is accepted for publication, copyright in the article, including the right to reproduce the article in all forms and media, shall be assigned exclusively to the Publisher. The Copyright Transfer Agreement, which may be copied from the pages following the Information for Authors or found on the journal home page listed here, should be signed by the appropriate person(s) and should accompany the original submission of a manuscript to this journal. The transfer of copyright does not take effect until the manuscript is accepted for publication. Authors are responsible for obtaining permissions to reprint previously published figures, tables, and other material. Letters of permission should accompany the final submission.
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the following style rules (deviation from these rules causes publication delays):
Form of Manuscript Submit manuscript in triplicate--including the original typewritten copy (preferably triple-spaced but at least double-spaced)--on one side of 8.5 x 11-inch white paper. Number each page. The Title Page (p. 1) should contain the article title, authors' names and complete affiliations, footnotes to the title (indicated by superscript 1,2,3), a running title of less than 50 characters, and the address for manuscript correspondence (including e-mail address and telephone and fax numbers). Please specify if you do not want your e-mail address published.
Tables Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in order of appearance in the text. Type each table double-spaced on a separate page with a short descriptive title typed directly above and with essential footnotes below. Authors should submit complex tables as camera-ready copy.
Equations Equations should be typewritten and with the number placed in parentheses at the right margin. Reference to equations should use the form "Eq. (3)" or simply (3).
References References to the literature should be cited the text by Arabic numbers between square brackets, as [1], [1, 2], [1, Theorem 1.5], etc., and listed in numerical order at the end.

For unpublished lectures or symposia, include title of the paper, name of the sponsoring society in full, and date. For journal names, follow the latest "Abbreviations of Names of Serials" reviewed in Mathematical Reviews (Mathematical Reviews Annual Index, American Mathematical Society). Type references double- spaced throughout.
Footnotes Footnotes in text should be avoided if at all possible. If they must be used, identify by superscript numbers and type together on a separate page, double- or triple-spaced.
Figures Figures should be in a finished form suitable for publication. Number figures consecutively with Arabic numerals, and indicate the top and the authors on the back of each figure. Lettering on drawings should be professional quality or generated by high-resolution computer graphics and must be large enough to withstand appropriate reduction for publication. Supply a descriptive legend for each figure. Type legends double- or triple spaced consecutively on a separate sheet.
Proofs and Reprints Proofs will be sent to the author with a reprint order form. Authors will be charged for alterations in excess of 10% of the cost of composition. Fifty reprints without covers will be provided free of charge. Additional reprints may be purchased; an order form will be included with proofs.
