Manuscripts must be typewritten, double-spaced on one side of A4 (297 ¡Á 210 mm) paper leaving a generous margin. Full papers will normally be between 2500 and 4000 words. There should be a separate title page containing: up to six keywords; the author(s) name(s) and name and address of the institution where the work was undertaken. Units

These should normally be expressed as SI units. If other units are used a conversion factor should be included. In the case of expression of energy intake or expenditure, kilojoules or megajoules should normally be used but kilocalories may be inserted as well as kilojoules if the author sees this as appropriate.

Ethics

Human studies should have been approved by an ethics committee, but in questionable matters the Editor reserves the right to reject papers. Sources of financial support must be acknowledged. Other kinds of association (such as consultancy, share ownership or patent licensing arrangements) should be disclosed to the Editor in a covering letter at the time of submission. Such information will be held in confidence.

Methods

It is essential that methods of dietary assessment are fully described in the paper. Authors are advised to consult 'Checklist for the methods section of dietary investigations', Nelson, M., Margetts, B.M. & Black, A. (1993), Letter to the Editor. J. Hum. Nutr. Dietet. 6, 79-81.
