About the journal
The only peer-reviewed journal completely devoted to the closed, controlled manipulation of the urinary tract. Contains papers on percutaneous renal and ureteral procedures, including extraction of calculi, dilation or incision of strictures, and diagnosis and treatment of urinary tract tumors; ureteroscopy for diagnostic and therapeutic indications, and laparoscopic urological procedures; endoscopic use of lasers, and extracorporeal lithotripsy of renal and ureteral stones. Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Submission and Copyright Agreement Form
The Copyright Agreement form (available from our website at http://www.liebertpub.com/media/content/transfer_of_copyright.pdf.) should be submitted once your paper has been accepted for publication. Manuscripts cannot be published without this form. The corresponding author is responsible for obtaining signatures of coauthors. Authors not permitted to release copyright must still return the form signed under the statement of the reason for not releasing the copyright. Upon acceptance of your paper, please fax the Copyright Agreement form to 914-740-2108.
Preparation of Manuscript
Type manuscripts double spaced throughout. Leave ample margins on the sides, top, and bottom of the page. Please submit text of manuscripts in Microsoft Word.
The title page should include the authors’ names and affiliations, the source of a work or study (if any), and a running title of about 45 characters. Please indicate the complete address, phone and fax numbers and e-mail addresses of all authors, and indicate the author to whom correspondence should be addressed. The second page should contain an abstract of not more than 250 words, which should be self-explanatory without reference to the text. The papers should follow this format: abstract, introduction, materials (or patients) and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgments, references. Number pages consecutively.
Because “ESWL” is a trademark, we prefer “SWL” to be used as the acronym for extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy. Please follow the requested style to avoid delays in publication. Consult an issue of the Journal for the exact format.
Techniques in Endourology
Articles in this section are to describe operative techniques in endourology, and should be submitted only after review of the proposed topic by the responsible editor. This section incorporates a paired video segment and print article on the same topic; we will consider only material that is submitted in both formats. The video must be backed up on a CD in high quality MPEG2 or AVI format, no longer than 12 minutes duration and at a resolution of at least 640x480. The body of the text should be no longer than 1500 words. The abstract (150 words or less) is to be followed by: Introduction, Technique (description of the technique, utilizing numbered headings separated into paragraphs), Equipment (bulleted list of the necessary equipment), Role in Urologic Practice (very brief results and discussion), Figures (up to six color figures are accepted, and will be printed without charge to the author), and References. New Techniques in Endourology
Articles in this section are to identify and describe new technologies related to the field of Endourology. These technologies are not yet proven but rather are in the development stages and show great promise. Prospective topics should be reviewed by the responsible editor and approved prior to submission. The body of the text should be no longer than 1500 words with an abstract of 150 words or less. The body should include an introduction, discussion of the technology, a specific section on its role in Endourology, figures, and references. Black and white figures are preferable, although one to two color figures can be accepted if they truly add to the visual effect. Controversial Cases in Endourology
Controversial management problems in endourology utilizing input from both readers and selected experts are discussed. The submission format for this section consists of a case report, pertinent images, and management solution. Each feature will conclude with the case presentation for the next article. Reviews in Endourology
Articles in this section are to provide a comprehensive, state-of-the-art review of a contemporary topic in endourology, laparoscopy, or minimally invasive surgery. Prospective topics should be submitted to the Editor of the Section for approval prior to submission. Articles should be of a length deemed appropriate to adequately cover the topic. Images in Endourology
Articles in this section are to include high quality unique images obtained during endoscopy, laparoscopy or robotic surgery. Images that illustrate pathology, an anomaly or complication will be considered. Radiologic images, clinical photographs or pictures of specimens or histology that would enhance the information provided by the surgical image/s will be included. Unique radiologic images without an accompanying surgical image will also be considered, if they relate to a condition of interest to endourologists.
Color photographs are encouraged. All images must be original, and unpublished. The images may be accompanied with line diagrams, captions, and arrows; such additions should be contrasted with the background. Scale markers for gross specimens and photomicrographs are required. Patient indentifying data from all images must be deleted. A maximum of 4 figures per article will be accepted. No more than three authors will be permitted for this section. For details regarding specifications for the images, please follow the guidelines under the “Tables and Illustration” section of the Instruction to Authors. The accompanying text should include information that relates to the subject illustrated in the images. The body of the text should be no longer than 750 words. No abstract is required. The text should include an introduction followed by a section describing the condition in the images and no more than 3 important references.

Tricks of the Trade
Articles in this section are written to describe a surgical step or “trick” of endourology, laparoscopy, or robotic surgery that the surgeon has found to be beneficial. The format for this section will consist of one page of text and one page of drawings which will address the following four areas: (1) Problem, (2) Technique, (3) Images/Drawings of the key steps, and (4) References (maximum of three). The addition of a high quality MPEG2 or AVI format video not exceeding five minutes in length is encouraged. Videos must be backed up on a CD. Invited experts may provide a review and comments on the proposed technique.

Tables and Illustrations
Use Arabic numerals to number tables. Each table must stand alone; i.e., contain all necessary information in the caption, and the table itself must be understood independently of the text. Details of experimental conditions should be included in the table footnotes. Information that appears in the text should not be repeated in tables, and tables should not contain data that can be given in the text in one or two sentences.
Color photographs that significantly enhance the presentation will be considered for publication. Reproduction of color illustrations will be made at the expense of the author.
Please follow these instructions when preparing files for uploading:
- Do not include any illustrations as part of your text file.
- Do not prepare any figures in Word as they are not workable.
- Line illustrations must be submitted at 600 DPI.
- Halftones and color photos should be submitted at a minimum
of 300 DPI.
- Power Point files cannot be uploaded.
- Save art as either TIFF or EPS files. Avoid submitting JPEG
files
- Color art must be saved as CYMK, not RGB.
- PDF files for individual figures may be uploaded.
Please name art and table files with the last name of the first author, e.g. Smith-Fig1. Label the figures and tables inside the files in addition to naming the file with the figure or table number. Thus when files are opened, the figure or table number will appear inside the file.

If it is necessary to cite an abstract, this should be so designated. Authors are responsible for the accuracy of the references and are reminded that inaccurate references are highly frustrating to the reader, the cited author, and indexing services. Rapid Peer Review Papers
Authors who wish to have their peer review papers rapidly reviewed so these papers will appear in the earliest possible issues may do so at a cost of $300 per article. When submitting online please select a manuscript type of "Rapid Review." The fee must be paid by credit card. The submitting author will be asked to enter the payment info as the last step prior to submitting. Decisions will be made no later than one week after submission.

Immediately following the Acknowledgments section, include a section entitled “Author Disclosure Statement.” This text must be part of your actual manuscript file. In this portion of the paper, authors must disclose any commercial associations that might create a conflict of interest in connection with submitted manuscripts. This statement should include appropriate information for EACH author, thereby representing that competing financial interests of all authors have been appropriately disclosed according to the policy of the Journal. It is important that all conflicts of interest, whether they are actual or potential, be disclosed. This information will remain confidential while the paper is being reviewed and will not influence the editorial decision. Abbreviations Used
Please upload a SEPARATE WORD FILE with the heading “Abbreviations Used” all abbreviations with an equal sign indicating their spelled out meaning. For example: CT = Computed Tomography. If there are no relevant abbreviations in your manuscript you must indicate that by putting in the Abbreviations Used heading followed by the word “None.” This list is required upon submission.
Permissions
The author must obtain permission to reproduce figures, tables, and text from previously published material, even if that is the author’s own work. Written permission must be obtained from the original copyright holder (generally the publisher, the author or editor) of the journal or book concerned. An appropriate credit line should be included in the figure legend or table footnote, and full publication information should be included in the reference list.
