 Latest Issue

 Journal of Basic Microbiology publishes results of fundamental research on prokaryotic and eucharyotic microorganisms. Particular consideration is given to papers dealing with general aspects of microbial physiology, biochemistry, cytology, genetics, ecology, taxonomy, virology and biotechnology.

An International Journal on Biochemistry, Physiology, Genetics, Morphology and Ecology of Microorganisms

Original papers, short communications and review articles on relevant problems in microbiology as well as book reviews are presented.

Instructions to Authors
  1. The journal publishes original papers, short communications, and review articles. Submission of a paper implies that it has not been published or has not been submitted for publication elsewhere. Manuscripts should be sent in duplicate with one set of the original illustrations to the Editor-in-Chief: Prof. Dr. Horst Malke, Winzerlaer Straße 10, D-07745 Jena.
  2. Manuscripts should preferably be written in English but may also be submitted in German. They should be typed double-spaced and be accompanied by a title page comprising: name and address(es) of the institution(s) where the work was done, title of the paper, and the complete name(s) of the author(s). Each paper must begin with a brief summary in English. Original papers should be divided into sections headed: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgements, and References. A short title for use as runing head should be provided. The exact mailing address of the author to whom correspondence, reprint requests etc. are to be sent must be indicated at the end of the paper. Manuscripts should also be submitted on a diskette containing a word-processor file with the entire text, followed by tables and figure legends.
  3. Tables, including captions, and figure legends should be mounted at appropriate places into the text. Leave two blank lines before continuing with the text. The size of the illustrations should not exceed the maximum printing area of 12 ?19 cm (4.5 ?7.5 inches).
  4. At the authoris request multi-coloured illustrations will be reproduced. In these cases the author will be charged a fee according to the actual additional costs. For estimates of these costs please contact the Editorial Office.
  5. Literature citations in the text should be by author and year of publication. If there are more than two authors, only the first one should be named, followed by et al.. References should include only publications cited in the text. They should be quoted in alphabetic order:
    • Books: Family name(s) and initials of author(s), year of publication. Title of the book. Volume and edition, publisher and place of publication, e.g.:
      BERTHELIN, J., BELGY, G. and MAGNE, R., 1977. Some aspects of the mechanism of solubilization and insolubilization of uranium from granites by heterotrophic microorganisms. In: Bacterial Leaching Conference (W. SCHWARTZ, Editor), pp. 261-270. Verlag Chemie Weinheim.
    • Journals: Family name(s) and initials of author(s), year of publication. Title of the paper. Abbreviated name of the journal, volume (underlined), number of the first and last page, e.g.:
      KÇPPELI, O., MåLLER, M. and FIECHTER, A., 1978. Chemical and structural alterations at the cell surface of Candida tropicalis, induced by hydrocarbon substrate. J. Bacteriol., 133, 952-958.
  6. Galley proofs will be sent to the author. It should be corrected and returned to the Editorial Office, Journal of Basic Microbiology, Vor dem Obertore 7, D-07751 Kunitz, as soon as possible.
  7. Authors will receive a complimentary copy of the issue containing their article. Reprints, further issues and a high resolution PDF can be ordered at the prices shown on the reprint order form which will be sent with the proofs.

Assignment of Rights for Journal Contributions

With the acceptance of the manuscript for publication in Journal of Basic Microbiology, WILEY-VCH Verlag Berlin GmbH acquires exclusively for three years from the date on which the article is published and thereafter for the full term of copyright, including any future extentions, on a non-exclusive basis all publishing rights including those of pre-publication, reprinting, translating, other forms of reproduction e.g. by photocopy, microform, or other means including machine-readable forms like CD-ROM, CD-I, DVD, diskettes, electronic storage and publishing via Local Area Networks, Intranet and Internet, and other data networks and other forms of distribution e.g. by Document Delivery-Services of this article world-wide.
