About the journal
For nearly four decades, the Journal of Applied Probability and Advances in Applied Probability have provided a forum for original research and reviews in applied probability, mapping the development of probability theory and its applications to physical, biological and medical, social and technological problems. Their wide audience includes leading researchers in the many fields where stochastic models are used, including operations research, telecommunications, computer engineering, epidemiology, financial mathematics, information systems and traffic management.
Advances in Applied Probability
highlights stochastic geometry and its statistical applications in a dedicated section of the journal.

Instructions to Authors

Papers published in Journal of Applied Probability are of two kinds:

 (1)   research papers not exceeding 20 printed pages;

(2)   short communications of a few printed pages in the nature of notes or brief accounts of work in progress.

 Letters relating specifically to articles which have appeared in the Journal will also be published in that journal.

 Contributions to Advances in Applied Probability may be of six kinds:

 (1)   review papers;

(2)   longer research papers in applied probability, which may include expository material;

(3)   expository papers on branches of mathematics of interest to probabilists;

(4)   papers outlining areas in the biological, physical, social and technological sciences in which probability models can usefully be developed;

(5)   papers in applied probability presented at conferences which do not publish their proceedings;

(6)   letters to the Editor on any appropriate topic in applied probability.

 In addition, the Stochastic Geometry and Statistical Applications section includes contributions relating to stochastic geometry and statistical applications.

 Papers submitted to the Applied Probability journals are considered on the understanding that they have not been published previously and are not under consideration by another publication.  Accepted papers will not be reprinted elsewhere without the written permission of the Trust.

 It is the policy not to accept for publication papers which cannot appear in print within 15 months of the date of receipt of the final version. Fifty offprints of each paper will be provided free: additional offprints are available at cost.

 Papers should be written in English or French; papers in other languages may be accepted by the editors, but will appear (subject to the author's agreement) in English or French translation.

 The paper should include:

 (1)   a short abstract of approximately 4 - 10 lines giving a non-mathematical description of the subject matter and results;

(2)   a list of keywords detailing the contents for the purposes of computerised information retrieval;

(3)   primary and secondary subject classifications according to the 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification.

 Letters to the Editor need not include these.

 To assist authors in writing papers in the APT style, they may use the APT LaTeX class file, aptpub.cls, along with a template file, template.tex and the APT bibliography style file, apt.bst.  We also recommend that authors consult the guide Submitting a paper in electronic form to the Applied Probability journals.  These files are also available as a zipped archive. Use of the APT class file is not a condition of submission.

 Papers may be submitted as hard copy or as electronic files (with hard copy back-up).  All submissions will be acknowledged on receipt.

 Hard copy:  Please supply three double-spaced hard copies, at least one of which should be printed on one side of the paper only.  The address for mail submissions is:

 Electronic submission:  Please email a double-spaced Postscript?(.ps) or Adobe?/SUP> portable document format (.pdf) file, not exceeding 1 Mb.  The files must be clearly identified by name in a separate covering message.  The address for email submissions is
