About the journal

 DESCRIPTION:

The Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology provides a forum for the basic aspects, theories and mechanisms of adhesion and deals with applications of adhesion principles in all areas of technology. Issues contain original articles, reviews and short communications in the following areas: theories of adhesion; surface energetics; fracture mechanics; development and applications of surface-sensitive methods to study adhesion phenomena; nondestructive methods for bond failure studies; techniques for the measurement of adhesion of thin films, thick films and coatings; surface modification of polymers to improve their adhesion; mechanisms and studies of coupling agents; adhesive joints, wood bonding and adhesion aspects of composite materials; biomedical materials; structural adhesives; paint and coatings (e.g. in relation to corrosion control); adhesion aspects in microelectronics; adhesion of lithographic materials; metallized plastics; rubber and elastomer adhesion; adhesion of aerospace materials.

Instructions to Authors

Submission of manuscripts
Manuscripts should be submitted in quadruplicate to either of the editors. All contributions will be evaluated by at least two independent referees. Papers should be original and must not have been submitted to any other publication. Authors are solely responsible for the factual accuracy of their papers. It is the responsibility of the principal author to secure requisite permission from his or her employer and all papers submitted are understood to have received due clearance(s) for publication.

Manuscript style
Manuscripts must be in American or British English, typed with double line spacing, single-sided on 81/2 x 11' or A4 sheets leaving 1' margins on all sides, and should be numbered beginning with the title page. The first page of an article should contain only (1) title of the paper, the name(s) and address(es) of the author(s), (2) a short title (running head) not exceeding 50 characters, (3) name and address of the author to whom correspondence and proofs should be sent. An abstract of 150--250 words and 4--8 keywords should be included with all manuscripts and follow the title page on a separate sheet.

Headings and subheadings for different sections of the paper (e.g. Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion) should be clearly indicated (f.ex. 1.; 1.1.; 1.1.1., etc.). Detailed mathematical discussion should be placed in an appendix. Units of measurement, abbreviations and symbols should follow the International System of Units (SI). Equations and formulae should be typewritten wherever possible. Equations should be numbered consecutively with arabic numerals in parentheses on the right-hand side of the page. Special symbols should be identified in the margin. Type or mark mathematical equations exactly as they should appear in print. Journal style of letter symbols is as follows: variable, italic type (indicated by underline); constants, roman text type; matrices and vectors, boldface type (indicated by wavy underline). When using a wordprocessor, use an appropriate typeface. It will be assumed that letters in displayed equations are to be set in italic type unless you mark them otherwise. All letter symbols in the text must be marked if they should be italic or boldface. Avoid confusion between 0 (zero) and o (the letter); 1 (the number), l (the letter); a and (alpha); k and (kappa); p and (rho); u and (mu); v and (nu); n and (eta).

Tables and figures
Tables should be given informative titles and should be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals. Tables will be reproduced by photo-offset, i.e. directly from the typed manuscript. Figures and chemical structures in a form suitable for reproduction should be submittted separately from the text as original drawings in India ink, and/or high contrast, sharp, unmounted photographs on glossy paper. Lettering on figures and chemical structures should be proportional to the size of the figure to ensure legibility after reduction. On the back of each figure should be indicated lightly in soft pencil: (1) the top of the figure by an arrow, (2) the first author and the figure number. All figures and tables should be cited consecutively in the text and a list of captions should be provided at the end of the paper.

References and reference section
The references should be cited in the text in a sequential manner and the reference numbers should be in square brackets at the same level as the text. References should be listed at the end of the paper in the reference section in the numerical order they apppear in the text.

References to articles from journals should be given in this order: Initials and last name(s) of author(s), standard abbreviated title of periodical (underlined)(according to the system co-sponsored by the American Chemical Society and listed in Bibliographical Guide for Editors and Authors), volume number (underlined), issue number, only if applicable, in parentheses, first and last relevant page numbers, year of publication in parentheses, e.g.:

1. W.J. van Ooij and M.E.F. Biemond, Rubber Chem. Technol. 57, 686--702 (1984)

References to an authored book, an edited book and a paper in an edited book should be listed according to the following style:

2. E.P. Plueddemann, Silane Coupling Agents. Plenum Press, New York (1982).

3. K.L. Mittal (Ed), Adhesion Measurement of Films and Coatings, VSP, Utrecht (1995).

4. W.J. van Ooij in: Physicochemical Aspects of Polymer Surfaces, K.L. Mittal (Ed), vol. 2, pp. 1035--1091. Plenum Press, New York (1983).

If a publication is in press, the reference should be made as complete as possible, e.g. by stating the name of the journal and adding `in press'.

Proofs
Proofs will be sent to the designated author to check typesetting accuracy. Alterations to the original manuscript at this stage will result in considerable delay in publication and, therefore, are not accepted unless charged to the author. Proofs should be returned within two days of receipt.

Reprints
Twenty-five reprints will be supplied free of charge for each article. Additional reprints may be ordered at prices shown on the reprint order form mailed together with the proofs.

There are no page charges. Short communications should be presented in the same style as a full paper

Word-processor disks
The publisher's production department can use your word-processor disks. If available, please send a copy of the disk with your final revised manuscript (together with two copies of the printout). This gives a substantial decrease in typesetting time and ensures that there are no re-keying errors in the article. Moreover, using word-processor disks helps us to shorten publication times. If you provide a disk, please follow these instructions:

1. Label the disk with the author's name; the word processor/computer used (e.g., IBM-PC, Macintosh); the name of the program (e.g., WordPerfect, TEX, MS-Word). If you have an editor's manuscript number, include it in the label.;
2. Send the manuscript as three files; if possible keep the text, figure legends, and tables in separate files. File names must clearly indicate the content of each file;
3. Send separate disks if you submit more than one article at the time;
4. A hard copy printout of the manuscript that exactly matches the disk files must be supplied. Special characters and symbols which are not included in the printer used, should be left as blank spaces in the files and these should be correctly written in the printout in red;
5. Do not use footnotes;
6. Do not justify the right-hand margin.
