About the journal

Aims & Scope

The Journal für die reine und angewandte Mathematik is the oldest mathematics periodical still in existence. Founded in 1826 by August Leopold Crelle and edited by him until his death in 1855, it soon became widely known under the name of Crelle's Journal. In the almost 180 years of its existence, Crelle's Journal has developed to an outstanding scholarly periodical with one of the worldwide largest circulations among mathematics journals. It belongs to the very top mathematics periodicals, as listed in ISI's Journal Citation Report.

Instructions to Authors
Crelle's Journal is devoted to the publication of original mathematical research papers. Contributions will be considered for publication in Crelle's Journal if they have not been published previously and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Manuscripts should be submitted, in duplicate, to the editor most closely associated with the topic discussed, in case of doubt to the Managing Editor. Names and addresses of the editors (including e-mail addresses) are also given above.
To facilitate the publication process, authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts typed using plain TEX or one of its derivatives. It may speed up the reviewing procedure if in addition to the hard copy of the manuscript, a TEX file be sent simultaneously via e-mail to the corresponding editor. Please consult the editor concerning details before sending an electronic manuscript.

Manuscripts should be prepared according to the following guidelines:

  • Each paper should include a short but informative abstract, as well as the 1991 Mathematics Subject Classification representing the primary and secondary subjects of the article.

  • In the title formulas or mathematical symbols should be avoided, if possible, or kept to a minimum. Only the first word but not proper nouns should be capitalized.
If the title is long, a shortened version should be supplied for the running heads, which together with the author's name should not exceed 80 characters.

  • Proclamations such as Proposition, Theorem, Lemma, Corollary are set in boldface, followed by the text in italics. Numerals in mathematical expressions should always be roman.

  • Proclamations such as Remark, Definition, Example are set in boldface, but followed by the text in roman (not italic) typeface.

  • Numbering of displayed formulas is flush left.

  • Footnotes should be numbered consecutively and placed at the foot of the page to which they refer.

  • Mathematical symbols and special characters which are not uniquely identifiable should be marked in color and explained in "Instructions for the printer" on a separate sheet. The following is standard for the use of italics resp. boldface: italics, boldface

  • For instance, the latin characters o, O, l when used as mathematical symbols should be distinguished from zero and one. The symbol for the empty set should be distinguished from the uppercase Greek letter Phi. The binary relation "is an element of" should be distinguished from the lowercase Greek letter epsilon.

  • Figures or diagrams must be submitted in a form suitable for reproduction. They should be drawn carefully, preferably on a separate sheet, and either be in the desired final size or about twice the final size.

  • References should be listed alphabetically and conform to the following example:
    [3] H. Hasse, Symmetrische Matrizen im Körper der reellen Zahlen. J. reine angew. Math. 153 (1923), 12 - 43.

  • When referring to this article in the manuscript the reference should be given in the form [3], Satz 11, and not [3, Satz 11] or [3, p. 24].

  • Authors' addresses should appear at the end of the manuscript, following the list of references. An e-mail address should be included if available.

Authors will receive 100 reprints free of charge. Additional reprints may be ordered when the proofs are returned to the publisher.
