The Israel Journal of Chemistry is internationally recognized for publishing first-rate, original, chemistry research on topics of current interest. The Journal publishes four special issues annually, each of which is edited by a guest editor who is a specialist in the topic.
Instructions to Authors
The Israel Journal of Chemistry publishes four special issues annually devoted to active research in fields of current interest. Articles are invited by the guest editor of each issue. All papers are subject to peer review. The editor welcomes suggestions from the author as to persons competent to referee the manuscript. Papers must not have been published previously or be under consideration by any other publication. Once accepted, they become the property of the publisher, Laser Pages Publishing Ltd., and may not be published elsewhere in full or in part without permission. Three clear copies of the manuscript should be submitted to the guest editor. Papers must be in English. They should be laser printed, double spaced, on one side of the paper only, with margins of at least 2.5 cm. Papers should not normally exceed 10,000 words. All pages of the manuscript should be numbered consecutively, including those with references and notes, figure captions, and tables, in that order. It is preferable that the tables and figure captions appear appended to the article, rather than embedded within. Placement cannot always be guaranteed. To expedite publication, authors must submit the final accepted version on a diskette along with the revised manuscript. First preference is for a Macintosh diskette, using Microsoft Word format. However, any Mac or PC-compatible diskette is acceptable. The program(s) used to prepare the manuscript should be clearly indicated on the diskette and on the submission form which is provided in the author's kit. The first page of the manuscript should include: (1) title (brief, informative, and, if possible, without formulas or symbols, in upper and lowercase letters); (2) short title for article identification on journal pages, not exceeding 50 characters; (3) key words for indexing purposes; (4) authors, full first (or second) name in addition to family name, e.g., David O. Green, not D.O. Green, or B. Oliver Brown, not B.O. Brown. Superscripts a,b,c, etc. for affiliations, i.e., places where work was conducted, with an asterisk signifying the author to whom correspondence should be addressed; address for correspondence should include postal code. Other superscripts (e.g., ? ? ? ||, ? #) should be used to indicate different current or permanent addresses, etc. If the author handling reprints is different from the corresponding author, please indicate this as well. For editorial purposes, the author submitting the paper should provide telephone, fax, and e-mail numbers. Any anticipated moves during the course of preparation of the manuscript for publication should be taken into account, with dates and alternative addresses and contact numbers. The second page should include a concise, self-contained abstract (not exceeding 250 words) suitable for use by Chemical Abstracts, stating the reason for the work, significant results, and conclusions. Articles are generally divided into the following sections: Introduction, Experimental, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions. Within these categories, the author should clearly indicate the hierarchy of subheadings. We generally do not number sections, and cross-reference them by name if necessary. Figures, complicated chemical equations, schemes, and structures should be computer generated and laser printed at a minimum of 300 dpi as well as provided on diskette in a universal format such as TIFF, PICT, or EPS. Large files may be compressed, or submitted on ZIP or 230 MB optical disks. Shaded areas in graphs and charts are best avoided, but if used should be easily distinguishable from each other. Figures should be generated keeping in mind page size (7.75 cm width for one column, 16 cm for two, 22 cm length of text area). Letters and symbols should be large enough to be legible after reduction. Photographs and half-tone artwork must be submitted as glossy prints or originals. Each figure must be clearly marked (on the margin or back) with the author's name and its identifying number and orientation. For footnotes to tables, use lowercase italic letters. Tables and figures should be kept to the minimum necessary. Figures will be produced in color only if the author agrees to defray the cost of color printing. References and notes are indicated in the text by superscript numbers in one consecutive series, after adjacent punctuation marks, in order of mention. These numbers appear in parentheses in the References and Notes section. One number may be used for a group of references, separated by (a), (b), etc. Each reference should contain all authors and editors (unless more than 10 of either), separated by semicolons, followed by abbreviated journal name (as in Chemical Abstracts Service Source Index [CASSI]), year, volume, and inclusive page numbers. Contributions from a book or proceedings should list title, editor, publisher, and city of publication, as well as year and page numbers. References to Ph.D. theses should list university and city (and state or country, as needed). For references not in English indicate the language, and the presence of an English abstract or summary. Examples: (1) (a) Israelachvili, J.; Berman, A. Isr. J. Chem. 1995, 35, 85?1. (b) Smith, J.C.; Kuczera, K.; Karplus, M. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. 1990, 87, 1601?605. Proofs should be checked carefully against the manuscript (pay special attention to tables, figures, equations, and formulas) and returned as soon as possible, both by fax and express mail. Substantial changes at the proof stage are made at the author's expense. Authors receive twenty-five reprints free of charge; additional reprints, or copies of the journal at reduced rates, should be ordered when returning proofs. Return of original figures should also be requested at this time. Manuscripts and original materials will be discarded three months after publication. *Important: If you wish to include as part of your article a figure, table, or other element which has already been published elsewhere, you must submit reprint permission in writing together with your original or revised manuscript. This permission can only be granted by the copyright owner, i.e., the publisher, even if you are an author of the original publication. Form letters for obtaining this permission have been included with the materials provided to authors by the guest editor. Extra copies are available from the guest editor or directly from the publisher. Further information may be obtained by contacting the publisher at our editorial office: Laser Pages Publishing Ltd.
