About the journal
Throughout the decades, the development of water ecology has been reflected in this journal: the analysis and assessment of biological structures in water in their interconnection with the internal and external cycle of materials.
Today the articles reflect the journal's title: Hydrobiology - the science of life processes in water. It is international, forming the basis for relevant decisions in politics and society, since mankind is dependent on water in so many ways.
An international team of scientists guarantees the international character and comprehensive coverage of this journal.

2. Manuscripts may deal with any aspects of marine or
freshwater hydrobiology, biogeochemistry, biochemistry,
physiology, and genetics of aquatic organisms where they
are relevant to an ecological understanding. Papers submitted
to the “International Review of Hydrobiology” must
not have been published elsewhere nor been submitted for
publication to any other journal.
3. Authors planning a review paper should first consult a
member of the Editorial Board.
4. All manuscripts are checked by referees. Shorter contributions
with manuscripts in the correct style are likely to be
published more rapidly.
5. Manuscripts must be linguistically adequate in terminology,
grammar and style to be properly understood at an international
level by the professional community. Authors using
English as a foreign language should seek assistance by
a colleague who is a native English speaker. Manuscripts
written linguistically poorly must be rejected.
6. When preparing the manuscript authors should consult a
copy of the “International Review” and conform with its normal
practice. Use double-spacing of lines. Number each
page. A PDF-file of an example is available from the Executive
Editor.
The heading of the manuscript should be as follows: Full
given name(s) and surname(s) of the author(s); Address(
es) of the author(s) with e-mail address of the corresponding
author, title of paper, five key words, abstract
(120 words maximum).
Papers should be divided in the following sections: Introduction,
Methods, Results, Discussion (and Conclusions).
The following items should be added at the end of the
paper: List of references in the following order: Surname,
initials of given name(s) of first author, initials of given
name(s) before surname of co-author(s), year: title. Journal
(in international abbreviation) volume: page numbers.
Tables and list of figure legends should be added on separate
pages.
Figures: Drawings must be sufficiently distinct for reproduction
in reduced scale. Black-and-white gloss photographs,
9 × 12 cm minimum. A contribution toward the
costs of reproduction of colour figures is requested.
Please forward electronically the text of your manuscript
including figures and tables, best within the same document,
to one of the editors. This document can be transmitted
by e-mail (see above), CD-ROM or floppy disk,
eventually after zip-packing. Please also send (postal) a
backup paper copy of the manuscript to the same editor.
7. Proofs will be sent to authors only for correction of printing
errors. Authors are charged for excessive corrections other
than typesetting errors. For papers by several authors,
please indicate who is in charge of proof reading. This
author undertakes the main responsibility. Changes of
addresses should be notified to the Executive Editor without
delay.
8. Corresponding authors will receive a free copy of the
International Review of Hydrobiology and a PDF-file for
25 copies of your paper. Additional reprints and a PDF-file
for unlimited copies can be ordered, when corrected proofs
are returned. For more information, please contact the
Publisher.
9. With the acceptance of the manuscript for publication the
publisher acquires exclusively for three years from the date
on which the article is published all publishing rights including
those of pre-publication, reprinting, translating, other
forms of reproduction (e.g. by photocopy, microform, or
other means including machine-readable forms like CDROM,
