Instructions to Authors
Original contributions are invited in the form of analytical and descriptive articles on policy and method as well as papers on original research in health services: health and social policy, political economy and sociology, history and philosophy, ethics and law. Manuscripts will be considered for publication with the understanding that they have not been previously published or submitted for publication elsewhere at the same time.
Manuscripts should be submitted in triplicate to Dr. Vicente Navarro, Editor-in-Chief, International Journal of Health Services, Department of Health Policy and Management, The Johns Hopkins University, School of Hygiene and Public Health, 624 North Broadway, Hampton House Room 448, Baltimore, Maryland 21205-1901. The original manuscript should be typed on one side only of 81/2 11 inch white paper, double-spaced, and numbered consecutively. Duplicates may be carbon or photocopies. Desired manuscript length is 20 to 30 pages. Please submit the manuscript in the following order: biographic sketch on the author's professional background (100 words or less), abstract of the article (200 words or less), title page with author affiliation and complete mailing address, body of article, footnotes, references, tables, figures, legends. More details of the stylistic format are available from Vicente Navarro, Editor-in-Chief.
Footnotes should be kept to a minimum; whenever possible incorporate material into the text. Number footnotes consecutively throughout the article and place on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. Do not use footnotes for citation of bibliographic material.
References should refer only to published material cited within the text, and are to be prepared according to Cumulated Index Medicus. It is the author's responsibility to verify that all references are accurate and complete. Style for a journal article, Weinerman, E. R. Patient's perceptions of group medical care. Am. J. Public Health 54: 880-889, 1964; for a book, Dixon, W. J., and Massey, F. J. Introduction to Statistical Analysis, pp. 78-90. McGraw-Hill, New York, 1969. Please list all references in numerical order, according to their appearance within the text, and type them double-spaced on separate pages following the article. References are cited within the text by arabic numerals in parentheses. Do not use ibid., op. cit., and so on in the case of multiple citations of the same reference; simply repeat the numeral, making no indication of its prior citation.
Tables should be placed on separate pages at the end of the manuscript. Please use arabic numerals, and indicate the approximate placement of tables within the text.
Figures should be professionally drafted and submitted in final form, suitable for photographic reproduction. All drawings and graphs should be distinct enough to allow substantial reduction without loss in clarity. Approximate placement of figures should be indicated within the text. Legends should be supplied on separate pages, clearly labeled, at the end of the manuscript
