Author Guidelines
The International Journal of Gynecological Cancer will accept submissions relating to any aspect of malignant disease of the female genital tract, including diagnosis, therapy, pathology, epidemiology, basic sciences, and experimental studies.
As of August 2002, the peer review process for the International Journal of Gynecological Cancer has been trasferred to an online system, Manuscript Central. The use of this system will: Speed the time to decision; Improve accuracy; Enable immediate distribution; Allow authors to track their own manuscripts. If you need assistance, please contact our support staff by phone at 1-434-817-2040 Ext. 167 or via e-mail at Support@ScholarOne.com. International callers should dial 001-434-817-2040 Ext. 167.
Submission policy. Submissions should normally be in the form of original articles: case reports will be considered only if they contain significant new information. Review articles may be submitted and letters to the Editor, intended for publication, are welcomed. Authors submitting a paper do so on the understanding that the work has not been published before, is not being considered for publication elsewhere and has been read and approved by all authors. The submission of the manuscript by the authors means that the authors automatically agree to assign exclusive copyright to the International Gynecologic Cancer Society. This work shall not be published elsewhere in any language without the written consent of the publisher. The articles published in this journal are protected by copyright, which covers translation rights and the exclusive right to reproduce and distribute all of the articles printed in the journal. As a result of the present U.S. copyright law, effective January 1, 1978, each author of a submitted manuscript must sign a statement expressly transferring copyright. A copyright transfer form will be sent to each corresponding author when a manuscript is accepted for publication. It is this authors responsibility that this form is signed by all authors and returned to the Editor-in-Chief. All clinical research papers which involve human subjects must be accompanied by evidence of ethical committee support. Articles will always be peer reviewed by at least two experienced reviewers and also by a Regional Editor and the Editor-in-Chief. The Editors and Editorial Board judge manuscripts suitable for publication and decisions by the Editors are final. Material accepted for publication is copyedited and typeset. Proofs are sent to contributors for final review. Contributors are responsible for the entire content of the copyedited article. Extensive changes to the proofs will be charged to the contributors and could delay publication. Manuscripts should preferably be submitted to a regional editor but can be submitted directly to either the Editor-in-Chief or the Assistant Editor-in-Chief. Letters intended for publication should be submitted to the Editor-in-Chief.
General information. All manuscripts must be English. The original and two copies should be submitted. The manuscript must be typed double-spaced on one side of the paper only with margins of at least one inch. Submission of the manuscript on a 3.5-inch diskette is strongly encouraged. The disk and hard copy must be identical. Disks may be either IBM or Macintosh-compatible. Manuscripts should be prepared preferably using the latest versions of Microsoft Word or WordPerfect; alternatively, manuscripts may be saved on disk in ASCII format. Please be sure to indicate platform, software name, and version number for all disks submitted. Do not justify and do not use hard returns at the end of lines. Please be sure to keep a backup copy of the file for reference and safety.
Title page. The title page should contain the authors name(s), place of work, postal address for correspondence and reprints, telephone and telefax numbers, email address, title, and a short running title of not more than 45 characters.
Abstract. The abstract should not exceed 200 words. Three to five keywords should be included after the abstract for indexing purposes.
Text. The text of the manuscript should be in the following sequence: Introduction, Patients and methods, Results, Discussion, Acknowledgments, References, Tables, and figure legends.
References. These should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text. The reference list should be in numerical order in the Vancouver style. Include only references cited in the text. Check that the text citations correspond exactly with the reference list. Verify the references against the original documents. Include only manuscripts accepted but not yet published (in press). Do not include unpublished material that has not been accepted for publication or personal communications. (They may be cited in parentheses in the text.) Abbreviate journal titles in accordance with Index Medicus and the international list of periodical title word abbreviations (ISO 833). Include the names of all authors if six or fewer. If more than six, then list only the first three and et al.

Figures. The original and two copies of all illustrations should be submitted. Line drawings should be in black indelible ink and at least twice the required size for publication. Indicate crop marks on tracing paper overlays. Arrows, indicators, or letters can be applied using a professional graphic transfer product (such as Chartpak). Consider clarity after reduction. Submit unmounted figures labeled on the back with the number, authors name, and "Top." Line drawings should be in black indelible ink. Illustrations should be planned to fit the proportions of the printed page. Computer generated figures must be legible and clearly printed. Dot matrix prints are not acceptable. Magnification should be given in the caption or shown by a scale bar. Figures must be referenced in the manuscript and numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers as they appear in the text. Captions should be listed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. Color photographs may be submitted but the author will be asked to assist in the cost of color reproduction.
Tables. Number tables consecutively with Arabic numbers. Type each table on a separate page at the end of the manuscript, with titles making them self-explanatory. Give due regard to the proportions of the printed page. All tables should be referenced in the text. All abbreviations should be explained in a footnote.
Style. Use generic names wherever possible; capitalize trade names and include the manufacturer. For names of chemicals, a trivial name may be used if the formal chemical name is given with the first use of the trivial name. Abbreviations should be kept to a minimum. Use an appropriate abbreviation only if it appears at least five times in the text. All measurements should be in metric, SI units. Negative indices should be used.
Proofs. Proofs must be returned by courier within 48 hours of receipt. Manuscripts are copyedited by a freelance editor hired by the publisher. The editor will not check the typeset proofs of manuscripts for errors, thus it is the responsibility of the author of each paper to review proofs carefully for accuracy of citations, formulas, etc., and to check for omissions in the text. It is imperative that the author does a prompt, thorough job of reviewing the proofs.
Offprints. The corresponding author will receive 25 offprints of their article after publication. Additional offprints may be ordered when proofs are returned.
