About the journal
IEEE PHOTONICS TECHNOLOGY LETTERS is published monthly. Original contributions are welcomed which relate advances or state-of-the-art capabilities in the theory, design, fabrication, application, performance, packaging and reliability of:
--- Lasers and optical devices; including semiconductor and solid state lasers, detectors, integrated optics and optoelectronics, sensors, etc.
--- Fiber, cable and waveguide technologies; including materials, splicing, connectors, measurement techniques, etc.
--- Systems, subsystems, and new applications of quantum electronic devices; including system demonstrations, signal processing, performance characterization, etc.
IEEE Lasers and Electro-Optics Society Field of Interest Lasers, optical devices, optical fibers and associated lightwave technology and their application in systems and subsystems, in which the quantum electronic devices are key elements. The Society is concerned with the research, development, design, manufacture, and applications of materials, devices and systems, and with the various scientific and technological activities which contribute to the useful expansion of the field of quantum electronics and applications.
Instructions to Authors
IEEE PHOTONICS TECHNOLOGY LETTERS is published monthly with the purpose of providing rapid publication of original and significant contributions relating to photonic-lightwave components and applications, laser physics and systems, and laser-electrooptic technology. Publication time will be ten weeks from the end of the month in which the contribution is accepted, provided the author responds immediately to all communications. Galley proofs will be sent, but in the interest of fast publication, there may not be time to wait for their return. Lengths of the letters (including title, abstract, and references) may be no more than three printed pages. Please submit manuscripts only to the IEEE/LEOS Editorial Office. For information, please e-mail s.j.flores@ieee.org. To ensure rapid communication, authors should include full mailing address, telephone and FAX numbers, and e-mail address if available. Submission of a manuscript amounts to assurance that it has received proper clearance from the author's company or institution, that it has not been copyrighted, published, or accepted for publication elsewhere, that it is not currently being considered for publication elsewhere, and that it will not be submitted elsewhere while under consideration.
Submission
Please submit:
- One original and two hard copies of all manuscripts, including the original ink drawings and/or glossy photographs of the figures
- References, which must include full titles and first and last page numbers, and all authors' names
- The completed IEEE copyright release form
- A floppy disk containing the text portion of the paper and one or more separate disks containing the figures
- A short list of indexing terms (available by emailing keywords@ieee.org)
PTL papers must not exceed three published pages. The text, figures, and references should occupy no more than 50 column-inches. (This allows for a normal title, abstract and authors' affiliations.) Please use the following calculation to determine the length of your paper:
57 words equal 1 column-inch;
Equations average 60 words each;
Simple figures average 3 cloumn-inches;
Complex or double figures average 6 column-inches;
Simple tables average 3 column-inches;
References average 0.5 column-inches;

Electronic Publication/Disk Submission Instructions: Including Information for Figures on Disk
The IEEE requires that you submit one disk containing the text portion of your paper and one or more separate disks containing the figures, together with your hard copies for publication.

It is the policy of the IEEE to own the copyright to the technical contributions it publishes on behalf of the interest of the IEEE, its authors, and their employers, and to facilitate the appropriate reuse of this material by others. To comply with IEEE policy under the U.S. Copyright Law, authors are required to sign an IEEE copyright transfer form before publication. This form, a copy of which appears in each January issue of this journal, returns to authors and their employers full right to reuse their material for their own purposes. Authors must submit a signed copy of this form with manuscripts.
