Instructions to Authors

Instructions for Authors

iOpenAccess logoSubmission of Manuscripts. Manuscripts may be sent to the Editor-in-Chief: George W. Taylor, Princeton Resources, P.O. Box 211, Princeton, New Jersey 08542-0211, U.S.A. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts on disk. The disk should be prepared using MS Word or WordPerfect and should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. Three hardcopy printouts that exactly match the disk must be supplied.
Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher.

All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more that 100 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.

Illustrations. Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:

  • 300 dpi or higher
  • sized to fit on journal page
  • EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only
  • submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files

Color Reproduction. Color art will print at the publisher's discretion at no additional cost to the author. Art selected to print in color will publish at the end of the issue and also within the article in the online format.

Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed, double-spaced, on a separate sheet. All original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.

References.
Identify references in the text by arabic numerals in brackets, and number consecutively in the Reference Section in order of their first mention. References should include: names of all contributing authors (last names first); title of article; title of journal (abbreviate according to the style of Index Medicus) or book; volume number; location and name of publishing company (books only); inclusive pages; year of publication. Examples:

Journal: Freund PA: Ethical problems in human experimentation. N Engl J Med. 1965;273: 687–692.

Book: Hill AB: Statistical Methods in Clinical and Preventative Medicine. New York: Oxford University Press; 1962.

Chapter in a Book: Woolner LB: Recent advances in pulmonary cytology: Early detection and localization of occult lung cancer in symptomless males. In: Koss LG, Coleman DV, eds. Advances in Clinical Cytology. London: Butterworths; 1981:95–135.

Offprints/Reprints: Each corresponding author will receive, at no cost, a PDF file of the article via email (a CD-ROM containing the PDF file may be sent in certain instances). The PDF file may be circulated up to 50 times either in print or electronic form. If the author wants to receive from Taylor and Francis printed offprints of individual articles, then these may be ordered at the time authors review their proofs. A discount is available to authors who order before print publication
