Includes papers studying genes and their expression at the level of RNA or proteins or the molecular basis of the immune response using molecular or cell biology approaches. Instructions to Authors INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS Manuscripts submitted to DNA and Cell Biology may not be under consideration for publication elsewhere. To help defray the cost of printing, the publisher requests that page charges of $60 per printed page be paid by all authors who have funds available from research grants or from their institutions. It should be noted that ability to pay page charges is not a prerequisite for publication in the Journal. PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPT Type the entire manuscript including figure legends, tables, and references double spaced on regular typewriter paper (not erasable bond). Leave ample margins on both sides, top and bottom (11/2 inches). Submit the original and three copies, including illustrations and tables. When possible, authors should also submit computer disks of their papers in WordPerfect or Microsoft Word. On the first page, give the title of the paper, name(s) of author(s), institutional affiliation(s), and the name (with complete address and phone number) to whom correspondence should be directed; supply a running title of about 45 characters. On the second page, supply an abstract of about 200 words, stating the aims, results, and conclusions drawn from the study. This must be followed by the introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgments, references, tables and figure legends. Results and discussion must be separate sections. Begin each of these sections on a separate page. Number pages consecutively; the first author's last name should appear on each page. Authors should review the style and clarity of their manuscripts with colleagues before submission. Please follow the protocol described herein to avoid delay in publication. Authors should note that manuscripts may be edited if needed to ensure clear grammatic English usage. Authors submitting manuscripts may include names, addresses, phone and fax numbers of qualified reviewers who are not collaborators. However, selection of reviewers is at the discretion of the Editors. TABLES AND ILLUSTRATIONS Type each table with its caption on a separate sheet of paper. Use Arabic numerals to number tables. Do not repeat information that is given in the text, and do not make a table for data that can be given in the text in one or two sentences. Original glossy photographs for all illustrations must be supplied with the manuscript. (Photocopies cannot be used for reproduction.) DNA sequence data may be submitted as glossy photos but will be accepted as computer printout provided a letter-quality laser printer (not a dot matrix printer) is used. All nucleic acid sequences must be submitted in camera-ready format and will not be typeset. All illustrations should be numbered and labeled with the first author¡¯s name on the back. The top of the illustration should be indicated. A legend should be supplied for each illustration, and all legends numbered consecutively and provided (double spaced) on a separate page. Figures must be numbered in the order cited in the text.  A complete, separately collated set must be submitted with each copy of the manuscript. Images should not show the name of the manufacturer. Please keep in mind that the figures will be reduced, so please do not submit large figures/graphs that contain small type, as the text within the figure will not be readable after reduction. Electronic submission of art is acceptable with the following caveats:  Do not include any illustrations as part of your text file.  Do not prepare any figures in Word as they are not workable.  Line illustrations must be submitted at 1200 DPI.  Halftones and color photos should be submitted at a minimum of 300 DPI.  Adobe is the preferred software. Avoid submitting PowerPoint files.  Save art as either TIFF or EPS files. Avoid submitting JPEG files.  Color art must be saved as CYMK not RGB  Please provide a laser printout of the art to ensure accuracy. Color illustrations: Authors will be charged for the cost of color separations and printing at the rate of $275 per piece of color art plus $1,200 per page of color. Authors who submit color art will automatically be billed at the above rates. If these costs are too high, authors must submit black and white art only. Outstanding color photographs are encouraged for possible use on the cover.  Cover art is not charged, and authors are encouraged to submit choices of color art for the cover. Color illustrations: Authors will be charged for the cost of color separations and printing at the rate of $275 per piece of color art plus $1,200 per page of color. Outstanding photographs are encouraged for possible use on the cover.  Cover art is not charged, and authors are encouraged to submit choices of color art for the cover REFERENCES All references must be cited by authors and dates within the text. i.e. The ribosomal RNA (rrn) operons in E. coli contain single copies of each of the 16S, 23S, and 5S r(RNA) genes (Pace, 1973). If more than two authors are involved, use et al. after the first author's name. i.e. (Sogin et al., 1971). If several papers by the same authors are cited in one year, use a lower case letter designation to indicate the individual papers. i.e. (Dunn and Studier, 1973a, 1973b). Use same designation in reference list. All references in Bibliography must be double spaced and listed in alphabetical order at the end of the paper. PERMISSIONS The author must obtain permission whenever it is required in conjunction with the reproduction of material such as figures and tables from copyrighted material. Written permission must be obtained from the publisher of the journal or book concerned. The publication from which the figure or table is taken must be listed in the reference list. Finally, a footnote of a reprinted table, or of the legend of a reprinted figure, should read, "reprinted by permission from Jones et al." and list the appropriate reference. All permissions listings must be shown in manuscript; they cannot be entered on proofs. REPRINTS Reprints may be ordered by using the special reprint order form that will accompany the proofs.
