2007 Impact Factor: 4.154 Ranking: 7/61 (Physics, Condensed Matter) and 16/189 (Materials Science, Multidisciplinary) ?2008 Thomson Reuters, Journal Citation Reports?
Covering topics in solid state materials properties, processing, and applications, Critical Reviews in Solid State and Materials Sciences brings you the latest and most important new developments and understandings. New and emerging theoretical and experimental topics are emphasized in the disciplines of condensed matter physics, physical chemistry, materials, and electrical, chemical and mechanical engineering. Cross-disciplinary engineering and science specialties are also included.
The reviews provide a critical assessment of the state-of-the-art for both experimental and theoretical studies.
Topics Include:
Advanced processing techniques for new materials Analysis of solid composition, bonding, structure, and topography Deposition techniques to form the solid state and epitaxial layers Diffusion and defects in the solid state Electrical, optical, magnetic, and thermal properties of new organic and inorganic materials Experimental techniques for characterization of materials and materials properties Interfaces in the solid state Mechanical properties of low dimensional solids Nanoparticle processing and properties Nucleation and growth in formation of the solid state Optical spectroscopy of solids Physics, chemistry. and theory of the solid state Processing issues in thin film microelectronic and optoelectronic semiconductor devices Quantum effects Solid state band structure Solid state energy sources Theoretical modeling of solid state dynamics
Instructions to Authors
Instructions for Authors Submission of Manuscripts
One original of each review manuscript should be submitted in English to Wolfgang Sigmund, Professor of Materials Science, North South Drive, P.O. Box 116400, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, 32611-6400; phone: (352) 846-3343; email: wsigm@mse.ufl.edu. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts via email. Submit files using MS Word or Adobe pdf and clearly label the authors' names. There is a size limit of 10 MB for email submissions, an ftp site is available for larger files to upload the manuscript and figures. Site information along with passwords will be provided on email request. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. All parts of the manuscript should be typewritten with at least 12 point font, double-spaced, with margins of at least one inch on all sides. Number manuscript pages consecutively throughout the paper. A cover page should be included containing all authors' full names, addresses, phone and fax numbers, and email addresses. Authors should also supply a shortened version of the title suitable for the running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces. Each article should be summarized in an abstract of not more than 300 words. Three to six keywords or terms not in the title will assist indexers in cross-indexing your article. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text. Reviewers
A list of four potential reviewers, including full contact information, should be supplied.
References
References to the literature and all notes regardless of their nature (except those in tables) should be numbered in one consecutive series, repetition of references being avoided by using the superscript number corresponding to the original reference. Reference numbers in the text should be typed as superscript numbers and follow terminal punctuation. Bibliographic references to classified documents and reports or to unpublished material not generally available to the scientific public should not be used. Literature references should be arranged and punctuated as follows:
1. H. Jackson, The sacral arcuate lines in upper sacral fractures, Radiology, 145, 35 (1982). References to books should include author, title, volume, publisher, date of publication, and relevant page ranges. Thus:
2. C. A. Rockwood Jr., K. E. Wilkins, and R. E. King, Eds., Fractures in Children, J. B. Lippincott, Philadelphia, PA, USA, 3 (1975).
3. V. M. Haughton and A. L.Williams, Intervertebral discs, in Computed Tomography of the Spine, Haughton, V. M. andWilliams, A. L., Eds., C. V. Mosby Co., St. Louis, MO, USA, 1982, 122. Italic or boldface type should be clearly indicated, and Greek or unusual characters should be written plainly or explained by annotations. Simple fractional expressions should be written with a slant line rather than in the usual manner, so that only a single line of type is required.
Illustrations
Illustrations submitted (line drawings, halftones, photos, photomicrographs, etc.) should be clean originals or digital files. Digital files are recommended for highest quality reproduction and should follow these guidelines:
300 dpi or higher sized to fit on journal page EPS, TIFF, or PSD format only submitted as separate files, not embedded in text files Color Reproduction
Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online online only conversion and reproduction or for print + online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print + online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are:
Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies. Print + Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color.
Tables and Figures
Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be included as separate sheets or files. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included. Figures should be completely labeled, taking into account necessary size reduction. Captions should be typed and doublespaced, on a separate sheet. For paper submission, all original figures should be clearly marked in pencil on the reverse side with the number, author's name, and top edge indicated.
Proofs
One set of proofs is sent to the author via email. Proofs should be carefully checked and returned promptly.
Reprints
Each corresponding author of an article will receive a PDF file of the article via email. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
