| Submission of Manuscripts |
- Getting started, please consult the the Information for Authors.
- There are two ways to submit your manuscript. Which way do you prefer?
NOTICE:Please prepare a single PDF file containing all graphics, tables and the Graphical Abstract.
Online Submission
Manuscripts can be submitted via the Internet. Note that the ONLY authorized data format is the Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format). Depending on your preferred word processor, please prepare your PDF file as follows.
[STEP 1: Preparing the Manuscript]
- Using Microsoft Word
[A] With the Authors' Template If you prefer to submit your manuscripts with the Electronic Submission System, an optional electronic template for Microsoft Word is available. For online submission, authors are encouraged to submit manuscripts using this Template in order to speed the editorial evaluation process. If you attempt to prepare your manuscript with the template, please follow the instructions described in it. [B] Without the Authors' Template If you have already prepared your manuscript without the template, and if you can convert the manuscript data to PDF, the Electronic Submission System is able to handle it.
- Using Other Word Processors
Following the instructions below, please convert your manuscript to the PDF file.
[STEP 2: Converting Manuscript Files to PDF ]
- For detailed information and instructions for preparing PDF files from your manuscripts:
Download and install the CSJ Job Options for Adobe Acrobat Distiller.
If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, visit the Adobe website to obtain Adobe Acrobat software for generating PDF documents. (There is a fee for this software.)
For those who interested in learning more about Adobe Acrobat PDF, you can find more information on Adobe's web site.
NOTE: Although your PDF manuscript file will be used for peer review, your manuscript, if accepted, will be typeset from your native word processing file, not from the PDF manuscript file. The template does not provide exactly the same appearance of the published manuscript but only facilitates the peer-review process by providing authors with a means to place their artwork and tables close to the point where they are discussed in the text. |
Conventional Submission
Hardcopy submission is still an option. Authors should prepare a manuscript in an appropriate format. For details, please consult the Information for Authors. If you prefer conventional hardcopy submission, manuscripts should be submitted in quadruplicate to the CSJ Editorial Office by post mail. In order to speed the editorial evaluation process, we highly recommend registering relevant information about your submission. Otherwise, it is very helpful to provide us with the electronic data of bibliographic information that contain the manuscript title, authors' names, the corresponding author's mailing address, phone number, fax number, and E-mail address. Please save these information in any electronic media, such as, FD, MO, or CD-R, and send it to us accompanied by your manuscript.

General Information
Notice When using the Electronic Submission System, the maximum file size for each manuscript data (PDF) is 3 MB (including artworks). If you need to upload PDF files over this limit, (especially for graphics of high resolution, please notify to the CSJ Editorial Office beforehand, and send it to us as E-mail attachments.

How to Prepare the Electronic Data |
Manuscript Text |
- Include text, references and notes, captions for figure and table, as a part of a single PDF file. Adobe Acrobat can merge PDF files.
- We recommend the use of Times and Symbol fonts only.
|
Artworks (Figures, Charts, Schemes, Tables, Graphical Abstract, and other graphics) |
- Authors are required to embed graphic files into the text file in any of the allowed formats. We thus encourage submission of one complete manuscript file containing text, tables, and all figures. In general, line drawings and simple graphics can be pasted into a Microsoft Word or WordPerfect file without loss of resolution. This is not the case for halftones or complicated graphics, and these files should be sent separately.
- If submitting files separately, either include all figures with the text or no figures with the text.
- Graphic files should be sized to fit on 1 page (A4 or letter size 8.5" by 11") at a resolution of no higher than 300 dots per inch (dpi). Higher resolution files will be requested upon acceptance for publication. Keep in mind that colors will appear differently on different screens or printers.
- Each figure should be complete and contain all of the figure parts.
- Photoshop files should be saved as *.ps or *.eps.
Note: Adobe's Photoshop supports export to the PDF format in ver. 5.0. Adobe Illustrator also supports export to PDF format in ver. 7.0. |
Supplemental Information |
- CIF Files: Manuscripts reporting the determination of one or more structures by X-ray diffraction must adhere to the Crystallographic Information Files (CIF). Please prepare the CIF file as supporting information. And submit it separately via the Electronic Submission System.
- Other Info: Authors can submit supporting information other than CIF files. If you need to submit additional information/artworks to verify or support the data presented in the paper and copies of papers that are related to your submission (or that are submitted to other journals but not yet published), please include them in a single file and submit it via the Electronic Submission System. For the time being, available upload file formats are listed below;
- PDF (Portable Document Format)
- CIF (Crystallographic Information File)
- CDX (ChemDraw Exchange Format)
- DOC (Microsoft Word File)
- XLS (Microsoft Excel File)
- PPT (Microsoft Power Point File)
|
How to Save the PDF in Acceptable Formats |
|
Below are some tips on how to create PDF files in the acceptable formats. |
- Creation of *.pdf files normally requires Adobe Acrobat or another PDF writing engine. For details, please refer to the CSJ Guidelines for Generating PDF Documents,
- We strongly recommend to avoid using Acrobat PDF writer. Use Acrobat Distiller to make proper PDF files.
- Make sure to embed fonts when creating PDF files.
|
Naming Files |
- Our Electronic Submission System can handle only the properly formatted electronic files with the CORRECT extension designating the file type.
- For Initial Submission
- Submitted Manuscript: PDF format
- Covering Letter: PDF format
- Supporting Information for Crystallography (CIF): CIF format
- Other Supporting Information: [PDF, CIF, CDX, DOC, XEL, PPT] format
- For Submission of Revised Manuscript
- Revised Manuscript: PDF format
- Response Sheet: PDF format
- Supporting Information for Crystallography (CIF): CIF format
- Other Supporting Information: [PDF, CIF, CDX, DOC, XEL, PPT] format
- Below mentioned characters are not permitted to use for naming files.
- double-byte character
- %, [, ], ', ", &, \, $, @, *, /.

- Name all files starting with the last name of the first author. Follow this by an indication of whether this is the text or cover letter (add "letter") or Supporting Information (add "si"). The file name ends with the extension.
- Examples of acceptable file names are:
- tanakatext.pdf
- tanakaletter.pdf
- tanakasi.pdf
|
File Size Limitation |
- We have put a limit of 3 MB on file uploads for manuscript, so collectively the text and figure files should all be less than this limit(for non-template users). If your manuscript requires larger file sizes, please send these by E-mail attachment after corresponding the Editorial Office.
- We have put a limit of 1 MB for each of the cover letter and Supporting Information.
|
How to Transmit the Electronic Materials |
- Manuscript data (PDF) can be submitted via the Internet. Please visit the Electronic Submission System site.
- If you have any problem with uploading your PDF files, please select the way of submission between the following alternative:,
(1) Send your PDF to the CSJ Editorial Office by E-mail. (2) Save your PDF in any electronic media, and send it to the CSJ Editorial Office by post mail.
