About the journal
The primary goal of the journal is to promote communication and increase dissemination of new results and ideas among mathematicians and computer scientists who use categorical methods in their research. The journal focuses on applications of results, techniques and ideas from category theory to mathematics, in particular algebra, analysis, order and topology and to computer science. These include the study of specific topological, algebraic and algebraic-topological constructs, categorical investigations in functional analysis, in continous order theory, in algebraic and logical type theory, in automata theory, in data bases and in languages. Furthermore the journal intends to follow the development of emerging fields in which the application of catagorical methods proves to be relevant. The journal will publish both carefully refereed research papers and survey papers. In all cases it strives for significance, originality, good exposition and the highest scientific quality in its publications.

Instructions to Authors
Submission of papers: Applied Categorical Structures prefers the submission of papers in LaTeX, however papers submitted in Amstex, Lamstex can also be accepted. Also, if the author wishes, he/she may mention which editor is closest to his/her field when submitting the paper.
For the purpose of refereeing, papers for publication should be initially submitted in hardcopy (fourfold) to: Kluwer Academic Publishers Journals Editorial Office Applied Categorical Structures P.O. Box 990 3300 AZ Dordrecht The Netherlands
Submission in electronic form of the final version of the manuscript is compulsory.
A LaTeX style file can be obtained from the Publisher (E-mail address: Internet: http://www.wkap.nl/authors/jrnlstylefiles/
Manuscripts (in four copies) which are submitted in typewritten form should be typed double spaced on one side of plain paper, with wide margins to allow for editorial notes and instructions to the printer. Equations and symbols should be typed if possible; in any case, clarity is essential. The first page of the manuscript should contain the article title, author's name, affiliation, and present address (for receipt of proofs), and if necessary a running head (condensed title) which should not exceed 60 characters, including spaces. Each page of the manuscript should be consecutively numbered, including pages of references and captions.
Abstract and Key Words
Include an Abstract of 100-200 words and give 3-5 key words.
Symbols
Unusual symbols should be identified in the margin, and an alternative or equivalent symbol or sign should be provided if the one requried is rare. Special care should be taken to distinguish between the letter O and zero, the letter l and the number one, kappa and k, mu and u, nu and v, eta and n. Subscripts and superscripts should be marked if not clear. The use of italics is to be indicated by single underlining; bold-face by wavy underlining.
Notes which do not belong to the head of the article should be numbered consecutively. They should be placed at the end of the article, before the references, not as footnotes. A note which refers to the head of the article should be indicated by an asterisk. Notes should be kept to an absolute minimum.
Figures should be referred to as `Fig.' in the captions, but spelled out in the text. They should be numbered consecutively. Give a detailed caption to each figure, refer to it in the text and note the approximate location in the margin. Collect all captions on a separate sheet or sheets. Half-tone photographs should be of high contrast. Line drawings should be in Indian ink on white or tracing paper at roughly twice or three times the desired scale. Only originals, or if unavailable, first class photocopies are acceptable. Figures which are not reproducible may hold up publication until new figures are obtained. Please indicate the author's name, the figure number and its top in blue pencil on the back of each illustration.
References should be numbered and listed at the end of the article. A journal reference should comprise name(s), initial(s), full title of paper, name of journal (underlined), volume number (wavy underlined), year of publication, and first and last pages in the following style: 1. G. Jalelidze: The fundamental theorem of Galois Theory, Mth. USSR Sbornik 64(2) (1989), 359-374.
A book reference should comprise name(s), initial(s), full title (underlined), publisher, place and year of publication in the following style: 3. J. Adàmek, H. Herrlich, and G.E. Strecker: Abstract and Concrete Categories, Wiley Interscience, New York, 1990.
Proofs
The author will receive two first proofs in page form from the publisher along with an annotated copy of the manuscript and is requested to return one corrected proof with the manuscript to the publisher without delay. Second proofs will be read only by the publisher to ensure that corrections have been made as noted by the author. Care should be taken to ensure that all contributions are typographically correct. A few corrections to the text are acceptable, but authors may expect to be charged for te cost of making extensive alterations to the text and/or illustrations once in proof.
Offprints
The first-named author will receive, without charge, 50 offprints of the article. Additional offprints may be ordered when the proofs are returned to the publisher.
No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions.
