About the journal
 Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is the official journal of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
The purpose of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery is to provide a forum for the rapid publication of original articles dealing with techniques advancing the art of aesthetic plastic surgery. Although many of these articles will describe surgical craftsmanship per se, others will deal with complications in surgical procedures and methods by which to treat or avoid them. "Second thoughts" about long established techniques, which should or might be abandoned, modified, or improved, as well as symposia devoted to the controversies arising from the use of one particular technique vs. another and the lessons to be learned from these dialogues will be included. Individual or isolated case histories, which may add to the specialty's increasing fund of knowledge and its advancement; improvements in surgical instruments, pharmaceuticals, and operating room equipment of use to the aesthetic plastic surgeon; and discussions of ancillary problems in aesthetic plastic surgery, such as the role of psychosocial factors in the doctor-patient and the patient-public interrelationships, are all to be presented. The role of preventive medicine and genetic counseling in averting some of the conditions that ultimately require aesthetic surgical correction, as well as certain factors that influence the patient's and surgeon's aesthetic judgement in relation to the overall appearance of a body feature, and the importance of physical anthropology in understanding the patient's ethnic requirements for a particular type of surgical procedure will be discussed. The history of the development and continuing growth of aesthetic plastic surgery and the attitudes of "society" and "the public" concerning the "justification" for the use of aesthetic plastic surgery will be dealt with. Perhaps most importantly, papers and reports are to be published discussing the increasing role of aesthetic plastic surgery as the final step in the overall rehabilitation of patients undergoing longstanding and tedious reconstructive surgery for the repair of congenital, acquired, accidental, and neoplastic defects.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
Manuscripts must be written in English, and authors are urged to aim for clarity, brevity, and accuracy of information and language. Authors whose first language is not English should have their manuscripts checked for grammar and stylistic accuracy by a native English speaker.

DOUBLE-BLIND PEER REVIEW
This journal follows a double-blind reviewing procedure. Authors are therefore requested to submit two separate files for their manuscript:
- A title page including all authors and affiliations
- A blinded manuscript without any author names and affiliations in the text or on the title page. Self-identifying citations and references in the article text should either be avoided or left blank.

MANUSCRIPT SPECIFICATIONS
Title Page. The title page should include:
- The name(s) of the author(s)
- A concise and informative title
- The affiliation(s) and address(es) of the author(s)
- The e-mail address, telephone and fax numbers of the corresponding author
- Include a short title (not to exceed 30 characters in length, including spaces between words) for use as a running head
- The authors must disclose any commercial interest that they may have in the subject of study and the source of any financial or material support
Abstract: each manuscript should be prefaced by an abstract of not more than 250 words and should state concisely the background, methods, results, and conclusions of the manuscript
Keywords: up to six keywords should be listed and separated by a comma
Manuscript Text: Original Articles, Reviews, and Case Reports should be structured in the following order: Introductions, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusion, Discussion, and Acknowledgements; References; Legends
- Use a normal, plain font (e.g., 12-point Times Roman) for text
- Double-space the text
- Use italics for emphasis
- Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages
- Do not use field functions
- Use tab stops or other commands for indents, not the space bar
- Use the table function, not spreadsheets, to make tables
References: Reference citations in the text should be identified by numbers in brackets. List the references at the end of the manuscript alphabetically by the last name of the first author. If the first author has more than one publication listed, list references in alphabetical order of subsequent authors last names. If the first author shares the last name with another first author (e.g., Smith JM vs. Smith RB), alphabetize by initials. If you list more than one publication by the same author/group of authors, arrange publications by date, earliest to latest. If you list more than one publication published in the same year by the same author/group of authors, use a, b, c, d, and so on to distinguish the publications. Authors are fully responsible for the accuracy of their references. Only works referred to in the text and already accepted for publication should be listed.

Tables:
- All tables are to be numbered using Arabic numerals

Permissions: Photographs in which a person is identifiable must either have the face masked out, or be accompanied by written permission for publication from the individual in the photograph. Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and the online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors. Please be informed that we will not be able to refund any costs that may have occurred in order to receive these permissions from other publishers. Potential conflicts of interest do not imply impropriety but could either directly or indirect, purposely or inadvertently affect the conduct, outcome, or reporting of any scholarly activity.
All potential benefits in any form from a commercial, for-profit company related directly or indirectly to the subject of this manuscript or any of the authors must be acknowledged. For each source of funds, both the research funder and the grant number should be given. These details should be added in the "Conflict of Interest" section during online submission, and should also be included in a separate section of the manuscript document text, before the list of references.
If no conflict exists, authors should state the following note in a separate section of the manuscript document text, before the list of references: The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest.
CROSSCHECK
Submissions to Aesthetic Plastic Surgery are now being checked for plagiarism via CrossCheck. CrossCheck, a multi-publisher initiative, screens published and submitted content for originality and detects instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts. This will ensure that Aesthetic Plastic Surgeryis actively combating plagiarism and is publishing only original research.
MULTIMEDIA ARTICLE & DYNAMIC MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION (I.E. STREAMING VIDEOS)
Multimedia articles are papers where the heart of the article is the video and, generally, only an abstract and references are included. Dynamic articles are regular articles with video(s) included as electronically supplementary material.
Upon submission of multimedia or dynamic articles, the author(s) will be required to submit the video in the following format:
- For multimedia articles, video clips should not exceed 9 minutes. For dynamic articles, video clips should not exceed 3 minutes and each manuscript should not contain more than 3 video clips.
- Multimedia file for review and submission: MPEG-1 file with the largest frame size (usually 320 x 240 pixels) that will fit on a CD and will be playable on a Windows-based computer.
- The content of these files must be identical to that reviewed and accepted by the editors of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
- All narration should be in English.
- There should be a “manuscript” submitted with the video that includes a title page, abstract and key words, as well as references if needed.
DYNAMIC MANUSCRIPT:
A dynamic manuscript is a print article with imbedded video material. Up to 3 (one minute maximum each) videos per manuscript submission will be accepted. Make sure to note in your manuscript the placement of the video clips. All standard instructions for manuscript and video submission should be followed for a dynamic manuscript submission.
ESM
We invite contributing authors to publish additional, article-related materials on the web site that complement and reinforce information published in the print journal.
If Electronic supplementary material (ESM) is submitted, it will be published as received from the author in the online version only. All standard instructions for manuscript and video submission should be followed. ESM may consist of
- information that cannot be printed: animations, video clips, sound recordings
- information that is more convenient in electronic form: sequences, spectral data, etc.
- large original data, e.g. additional tables, illustrations, etc.
- If supplying any ESM, the text must make specific mention of the material as a citation, similar to that of figures and tables (e.g., ". . . as shown in Animation 3.").
Upon submission of articles with video as Electronic Supplementary Material, the author(s) will be required to submit the video according to the following specifications:
- To accommodate user downloads, keep to the recommended upper limit for the size of the different file types. Larger-sized files may require very long download times, and some users may experience other problems during downloading.
- Video clips should not exceed 6 minutes or 60 MB. Anything exceeding 6 minutes must be submitted in two separate videos.
- Supply all supplementary material in standard file formats.
- Always use MPEG-1 (.mpg) format.
- Multimedia file for review and submission: Supply the MPEG-1 file with the largest frame size (usually 320 x 240 pixels) that will fit on a CD and will be playable on a Windows-based computer.
- The content of these files must be identical to that reviewed and accepted by the editor-in-chief.

AUTHOR PROOFS
After a submission is accepted and processed through production, a proof of the article is made available to the author. The purpose of the proof is to check for typesetting errors and the completeness and accuracy of the text, tables and figures. Substantial changes in content, e.g., new results, corrected values, title and authorship, are not allowed without the approval of the Editor.
The article will be published online after receipt of the corrected proofs. This is the official first publication citable with the DOI. After release of the printed version, the paper can also be cited by issue and page numbers. After online publication, further changes can only be made in the form of an Erratum, which will be hyperlinked to the article.
