Instructions for ASM members to access journal content.
Go to the ASM website at www.asminternational.org and log in as a member.
Click on the Membership tab, and you will be taken to the “My ASM” page.
Under My Personal Subscriptions, click on Technical Journals. This will take you to the Members-Only journals page. All ASM journals published by Springer are pictured on this page.
Select Read Online to access your active member subscriptions. As an ASM or EDFAS member, these include the two Met Trans journals plus 10 Springer-owned journals listed at the bottom of the page. (The other ASM journals listed are available by subscription at a special reduced price for ASM and EDFAS members.) This will take you directly to the journal content on SpringerLink. You should not be asked to log-in on the Springer site at any point, or to pay for access.
Please note that any journals to which you are not a member subscriber (or receive free access by virtue of ASM/EDFAS membership) will default to a Subscribe Now link. If you click this link, you will be taken to subscription information on the ASM website. At the bottom of the Members-Only journal page is the list of 10 Springer materials journals to which ASM and EDFAS members receive free access. Click Read Online beside the journal title to receive free access to its content. If you have any difficulties in reaching the ASM Members-Only journals page, or do not know your ASM user name and password, please contact ASM Customer Service (customer.service@asminternational.org); tel: 440/338-5151, ext. 0.
Journal Troubleshooting
If you have recently been to the Springer site other than through the ASM website, it may remember you as a non-subscriber and indicate that access is not available or ask you to log-in or pay for access. If that happens, you may need to clear out the cookies and temporary history files on your computer and close your Internet connection. When you then go back in through the ASM site, it should recognize you as a subscriber.
Steps to clear cookies and temporary history files:
On your Internet browser toolbar, click on Tools, then select Delete Browsing History.
In the Delete Browsing History pop-up box, click on Delete Files (next to Temporary Internet Files).
Then Delete Cookies (next to Cookies).
Then Delete History (next to History).
Close your Internet connection. These steps will remove the Springer site’s memory of previous visits.
Reopen your Internet browser, log-in again at the ASM website, and follow the instructions to Read Online. This will take you to the Springer site, where you should see the listing of all issues of the journal. The small boxes to the left of each article listed should all be completely filled in green. You should not be asked to log-in on the Springer site at any point, or to pay for access.
Additionally, certain firewall settings and anti-virus software may also affect your ability to access content on SpringerLink. If your firewall or anti-virus software has an HTTP referrer blocker, you will need to disable this referrer blocker in order for the referring link to work properly. As a test, you might also try obtaining access on another computer, which may not have such a blocker activated.
