Acta Neuropsychiatrica publishes high-quality, innovative articles on the clinical, preclinical and molecular aspects of neuropsychiatric disorders, including the phenomenology, measurement, epidemiology and socio-ecological aspects and the pathophysiology and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. Instructions to Authors

General policies

Four hard copies of the article and a newly formatted 3.5 inch disk containing an exact copy of the manuscript with tables and figures in a separate file (TIFF, EPS or JPEG) should be submitted. The article file should include all textual material (text, references, tables, figures, etc.) and separate illustration files.

A cover letter should state the number of words, the number of figures and tables in the manuscript. It should specify the file name, word processing software, and the type of computer used. It should specify for which section of the Acta Neuropsychiatrica it is being submitted, i.e., Review, Original Article, Editorial, Brief Report or Letter. The covering letter should also designate one of the authors as correspondent and provide an address, telephone and fax numbers as well as e-mail. Procedures involving human experiments should be in accordance with the ethical standards of the Committee on Human Experimentation of the institution in which the experiments are carried out.

Articles and letters to the Editor which report the results of experiments on human subjects must include a statement that informed consent was obtained after the procedure(s) had been fully explained. An explicit statement must be provided in the Material and Methods section of the manuscript. The authors should use metric units and the generic names of drugs throughout the manuscript. Laboratory units must be followed by SI (Systeme International) units. Authors submitting a manuscript do so in the understanding that they agree to assign exclusive copyright to Acta Neuropsychiatrica if and when the paper is accepted for publication. Upon acceptance, the authors will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to Acta Neuropsychiatrica so that the authors and Acta Neuropsychiatrica are protected from misuse of copyrighted material. Consequently, the manuscripts become the permanent property of Acta Neuropsychiatrica and may not be republished without permission from Acta Neuropsychiatrica. Manuscripts are reviewed with the understanding that they have not been published previously and have been approved by all authors.

As a general rule, manuscripts will be reviewed by two independent reviewers. Revised manuscripts should be accompanied by a point-to-point reply to the remarks of the referees and editor, specifying the changes made in the revised version. Authors should include in a cover letter the names and complete addresses, fax and e-mail of five potential reviewers, which may be used at the discretion of the editors. Manuscripts will not be returned after the review process. Manuscripts not published in Acta Neuropsychiatrica will be destroyed. Rapid communications will be considered for very important contributions. The authors should explain in their cover letter why they would like to publish their paper as a rapid communication. All papers will be carefully revised by the publisher's desk editors. Page proofs will be send to the corresponding author by e-mail (PDF file). Proofs should be returned within 3 days of receipt.
