About the journal
Since 1905 this series has provided a unique record of British scholarship in the humanities and social sciences ¡ª by publishing the highly regarded Academy lectures, and through its memoirs of the lives and achievements of deceased Fellows of the Academy. The current Editor of the annual Lectures and Memoirs volumes is Professor Ron Johnston, FBA.
Since 1992 the series has included thematic volumes stemming from symposia specially convened to address particular subjects.
Volumes are published by Oxford University Press. Some older volumes are available from Oxbow Books.
Instructions to Authors
Notes on preparing a paper for publication
- Publication in the Proceedings of the British Academy is by invitation alone, and is subject to relevant editorial procedures.
Unsolicited papers are not accepted.
- Extended obituaries of deceased Fellows of the British Academy are published in the annual Memoirs volume.
- The texts of lectures given as part of the Academy's formal lecture programme are published in the annual Lectures volume.
- Papers given at British Academy conferences are published in dedicated thematic volumes.

- Because of the wide range of subject areas covered, editorial guidelines vary from volume to volume.
Contributors to conference volumes will receive specific instructions for the preparation of papers.
