About the journal
A Journal of Literary History
MLQ focuses on change, both in literary practice and within the profession of literature itself. The journal is open to essays on literary change from the Middle Ages to the present and welcomes theoretical reflections on the relationship of literary change or historicism to feminism, ethnic studies, cultural materialism, discourse analysis, and all other forms of representation and cultural critique. Seeing texts as the depictions, agents, and vehicles of change, MLQ targets literature as a commanding and vital force.

Submission guidelines for Modern Language Quarterly
Submissions should be addressed to the Editor, Modern Language Quarterly, Department of English, University of Washington, Box 354330, Seattle, WA 98195-4330; phone: 206-543-6827; fax: 206-685-2673; e-mail: mlq@u.washington.edu.
Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout, including notes and quotations, with 1.5-inch margins, underlining for italicized passages, and left (not full) justification, and should be no longer than 10,500¨C11,000 words. Manuscripts will not be returned unless accompanied by self-addressed envelopes with return postage.
After an article is accepted for publication, we ask that it be provided in MS Word as an e-mail attachment. The final version should be prepared in accordance with the MLQ style sheet.
