About MPPA
Medical Problems of Performing Artists is a peer-reviewed medical journal that provides a worldwide forum for professionals involved in practice and research related to performing arts medicine. Issued quarterly, it publishes information about the origin and nature, management, and rehabilitation of medical problems affecting musicians, dancers, vocalists, actors, and others, including anxiety, musculoskeletal injuries and overuse, finger and hand problems, voice and hearing problems, stress, eating disorders, and neuromuscular disorders.

Medical Problems of Performing Artists Information for Prospective Authors
Medical Problems of Performing Artists provides a worldwide forum for professionals in all fields of practice and research related to the medical aspects of the performing arts, including medical problems of musicians, dancers, vocalists, and others.
MPPA is pleased to consider original research studies, case reports, personal essays, review articles, book reviews, and letters to the editor with the understanding that they have not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.
Manuscripts Manuscripts should be submitted with a cover letter indicating the name, address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the person responsible for correspondence regarding the manuscript. Authors should disclose any financial conflicts of interest that may influence interpretation of their study results, and the study should have been performed following standard ethical guidelines.
Copyright Release. A statement must be signed by all authors that says, ?In consideration of Medical Problems of Performing Artists? taking action in reviewing and editing my submission, the author(s) undersigned hereby indicates their material participation in the study and transfers, assigns, or otherwise conveys all copyright ownership to Science & Medicine, Inc., in the event that such work is published in Medical Problems of Performing Artists.?
Manuscripts accepted for publication are copyrighted by the publisher in the issue published and may not be reproduced elsewhere without written permission.
Format. Manuscripts should be submitted in standard word-processing format (e.g., MS Word, WordPerfect) via e-mail to the editor. If the file is large, figures, tables, and photos may be submitted as separate files. Alternatively, a CD with the manuscript in the same format may be mailed to the editor.
The manuscripts, including references, must be typed double-spaced with 1-inch margins throughout. Title page should include the following: title; authors, with highest earned degrees and institutional affiliations; name, mailing address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the corresponding author, acknowledgment of grants, any conflicts of interest, and prior presentation. Borrowed materials must be fully identified and written permission must be obtained from both author and publisher.
Abstracts. All articles should include an abstract summarizing the objective, methods, results, and conclusion of the study. Length should not exceed 250 words.
Tables and Illustrations. Tables should enhance rather than repeat material contained in the text. Illustrations are encouraged and should be professionally drawn and submitted as glossy or laser prints or as electronic files (EPS, TIFF, or high-resolution JPEG format preferred). (The publisher is able to provide assistance with improving the look of some figures.) All tables and illustrations must be cited, in order, in the text.
References. References should be listed consecutively as they appear in the text. Journal references must contain names of all authors, complete title, name of the journal (abbreviated in Index Medicus style), year, volume number (and issue number if needed), and inclusive numbers. Book references must contain names of all authors/editors, title of the book, name and location of the publisher, and year. Material from online sources should list the URL and date accessed. Generally, original articles should not cite more than 25 references.

Review Process All manuscripts are read by the editor and are subject to review by the editor, editorial board, or other authority in the field. Manuscripts are judged on their originality, methods, presentation, and appropriateness for the journal.
Most manuscripts require revisions before being accepted by the editor. Accepted manuscripts will be copyedited to eliminate grammatical errors, to enhance clarity, and to conform to journal style. The first author (or corresponding author) will receive PDF proofs of the edited article via e-mail prior to publication.
Indexing: The journal is listed in Current Contents/Arts & Humanities, ISI/BIOMED, Excerpta Medica/EMBASE, CINAHL, International Index to Music Periodicals, the Music Index, and RILM (Répertoire Internationale de Littérature Musicale) Abstracts of Music Literature. Content should be retrievable through Internet searches.
Reprints Reprints may be purchased from the publisher. A price list and order form accompany the proofs.
