About the journal
Archaeology in Oceania is published online and in print versions three times a year: April, July, October.  It accepts articles and research reports in prehistoric and historical archaeology, modern material culture and human biology of ancient and modern human populations.  Its primary geographic focus is Australia, the islands of the Pacific Ocean and lands of the western Pacific rim.  All articles and research reports accepted as being within the remit of the journal and of appropriate standard will be reviewed by two scholars; authors will be informed of these comments though not necessarily of the reviewer's names
Instructions to Authors

Information for authors

1.  Archaeology in Oceania publishes original contributions in four sections: articles (3,000 - 20,000 words), research reports (< 3,000 words and factual rather than interpretive), comments which relate directly to previously published material, and book reviews.

2.  All material should be submitted double-spaced.  We accept submissions either as one PDF file including all tables and illustrations, or as two hard copies.  Once the piece has been reviewed and accepted, we require the final version on disk or CD, along with one hard copy.  Use Microsoft Word for text and tables; KEEP FORMATTING TO A MINIMUM.  Use .jpg or .tiff files for illustrations.  Submit tables and figures on separate sheets and as separate files.

3.  Give authors' affiliations, addresses and emails on the title page.

4.  Supply an Abstract outlining the gist of the article/research report in not more than 200 words.

5. Supply up to five keywords.

6.  Use two levels of heading: centre bold, italic left justified.

7.  Use in-text references in the form (Smith 1998: 34; Jones 1990: 36-8, 1991a, 1991b)

8.  Do not use footnotes.

9.  Report original radiocarbon dates in upper case (BP) and calibrated ages as calBP.  Report laboratory number, material dated, calibration system used and any corrections made.

10.  Short quotes (<30 words) should be indicated by single quote marks.  Longer quotes should be separated as an indented paragraph.

11. References should be listed on a new page, in alphabetical and calendrical order, using a consistent format.

12.  Illustrations should be designed to fit the journal's columns, with their final width as a multiple of 85 or 178 mm.  The maximum possible length is 248 mm.  Do not frame illustrations. Number all illustrations consecutively and present the captions together on a separate page, not on the illustration. Final images may be submitted in .jpg or .tif format and with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.  If any illustrations are not your own, acknowledge the source and supply copyright permission.

13.  Tables, numbered consecutively, should be typed each on a separate page.  Do NOT frame tables or use vertical rules.  Give captions together on a separate page.

14.  Page proofs are sent to the author for correction.  A signed contract will be required at that time.  Reprints can be supplied as a PDF file for a nominal charge, paid for when proofs are returned.  Authors are not sent a free copy.

15. Address all correspondence to the editor.

Archaeology in Oceania is indexed in APAIS: Australian Public Affairs Information Service produced by the National Library of Australia in both on line and printed form, also in Anthropological Literature in online and printed form, in Anthropological Index Online [http://rai.anthropology.org.uk/], International Bibliography of the Social Sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities Citation Index.
