About the journal
The JOURNAL OF FEMINIST STUDIES IN RELIGION
is a channel for the publication of feminist scholarship
in religion and a forum for discussion and dialogue
among women and men of differing feminist perspectives.
The JFSR has two communities of accountability: the
academy, in which it is situated, and the feminist
movement, from which it draws its nourishment and
vision. Its editors are committed to rigorous thinking and
analysis in the service of the transformation of religious
studies as a discipline and the feminist transformation of
religious and cultural institutions.

The JFSR is also the oldest interdisciplinary, interreligious feminist academic journal in religious studies. Founded in 1985, it is published twice annually, in the spring and fall. Located at the intersection of feminist theory and studies in religion, it welcomes contributions that explore a diversity of feminist theories, practices, cultures, and religions.

FEATURES

Articles: scholarly critical and constructive essays

Living It Out: reports and critical reflections on the development and practices of feminist studies and movements within religions in the U.S. and around the world

Speaking Out: editorials by JFSR board members on current political and theoretical issues

Instructions to Authors

NOTICE TO PROSPECTIVE CONTRIBUTORS

The Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion welcomes a variety of contributions that focus on women's experience or on gender as a category of analysis, and that further feminist theory, consciousness, and practice. We are looking for material of several types and formats: scholarly, critical, and constructive articles, review essays (reviews of recent literature on a given topic), reports of significant feminist projects related to religion, liturgies, poetry, letters, and ideas for roundtable discussions.

Manuscript Guidelines:

Manuscripts submitted should not be under consideration elsewhere. They should be typewritten, double-spaced, not less than fifteen or more than thirty pages long, and submitted in duplicate; a CD-ROM or PC-formatted disk containing the manuscript should also be submitted. Twelve point font is preferred. All pages on the manuscript should be numbered. Form should follow The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2003). In order to protect anonymity, the author抯 name should appear only on a separate cover sheet. Click to view JFSR's Style Sheet. One copy of the manuscript will be returned if accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope. Please include a 150-word abstract with all article submissions.

Poetry must also be submitted in duplicate with a CD-ROM or disk containing the poetry.

All papers appropriate for the JFSR will be sent out anonymously to at least two reviewers, on whose judgment the editors rely heavily. While the JFSR is not restricted to any one conception of feminism and seeks to represent the widest possible range of feminist perspectives, it is feminist. Reviewers are asked to evaluate manuscripts and creative pieces not only on the basis of their scholarly competence but also on the basis of their contribution to feminist theory, their acquaintance with significant issues in the women's movement, and their vision of social and/or religious change. Writing that is in any way sexist, racist, homophobic, or otherwise discriminatory will not be accepted. All manuscripts are subject to editorial modification.

See our What's New page for information on JFSR's annual New Scholars Award competition.

All manuscripts or correspondence related to the submission of manuscripts should be sent to Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, Attention: Stephanie May, Harvard Divinity School, 45 Francis Avenue, Cambridge, MA 02138 USA; email jfsr@hds.harvard.edu. Please note that at this time we are unable to accept manuscripts via email.
