About the journal
Description
The Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics welcomes articles on ethical issues confronting agriculture, food production and environmental concerns. The goal of this journal is to create a forum for discussion of moral issues arising from actual or projected social policies in regard to a wide range of questions. Among these are ethical questions concerning the responsibilities of agricultural producers, the assessment of technological changes affecting farm populations, the utilization of farmland and other resources, the deployment of intensive agriculture, the modification of ecosystems, animal welfare, the professional responsibilities of agrologists, veterinarians, or food scientists, the use of biotechnology, the safety, availability, and affordability of food.

The journal will publish scientific articles that are relevant to ethical issues, as well as relevant philosophical papers. In addition to substantial papers, the journal will also publish brief discussion pieces.

Manuscript Submission
The Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics prefers the submission of papers in LaTeX; however, papers submitted in AMSTeX, LAMSTeX, and software programmes such as WordPerfect, Apple Macintosh, Word for Windows, etc. can also be accepted. For the purpose of refereeing, papers for publication should initially also be submitted in hard copy (4−fold) to:

Manuscript Presentation
Manuscripts should be typewritten on A4 or US Letter bond paper, one side only, leaving enough margin on all sides to permit remarks by the reviewers. Please double−space all materials, including footnotes, endnotes, and references.

Number the pages consecutively with the first page containing the title, the authors, the affiliation, a short abstract of 100 to 250 words, and five to ten key words in alphabetical order. Since theabstract and the key words will be used to select appropriate reviewers, it is essential to make them as informative as possible. Quoted passages of more than 40 words should be typed in smaller size and set off from the text, not indented, as a block quotation.
Illustrations
Springer accept electronic submission of figures.Preferred file formats are TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) andEncapsulated PostScript (resolution between 300 and 600 dpi), but figuresin other electronic formats may also be used. File names should not belonger than 8 characters. A printout of ALL figures should be suppliedwith the hardcopy manuscript.

Submit only clear reproductions of artwork. Authors should retain original artwork until a manuscript has been accepted in its final version. All figures must be in a form suitable for reproduction (reduction). Originalink drawings or laserprinter output reproduce best, but if they are notavailable, same−sized glossies or matt photostats are acceptable.Photographs should be in black and white on glossy paper. Computer printsare acceptable for figures only if they are done on a high qualitylaserprinter.
Figures and Tables
Each figure and table should be mentioned in the text and should benumbered consecutively using Arabic numbers in order of appearance in thetext for figures, and Roman numbers for tables. On the reverse side ofeach figure, write in pencil the name of the (first) author and the figurenumber. Figures and tables should be placed at the end of the manuscriptfollowing the Reference section.
Sections Headings
Headings should be in: capital letters.
Footnotes and References
Please use footnotes only. Do not use endnotes. Be sure you do not mix footnote text and Bibliographic information. Bibliographic informationshould be listed in a separate Reference section (see REFERENCE sectionfor more information). Footnotes should be indicated by consecutive superscript numbers (use an asterisk for the first footnote referring tothe title of the article) in the text. In tables, footnotes are preferableto long explanatory material in either the heading or body of the table.Such explanatory footnotes, identified by superscript letters, should beplaced immediately below the table.
Cross−referencing
Please make optimal use of the cross−referencing features of your softwarepackage. Do not cross−reference page numbers. Cross−references shouldrefer to:

section number of a heading

the number of a displayed equation

the number of a table

the number of a figure

the number of an enunciation

the name / year of a reference entry

In the text, a reference already identified by the author should befollowed by the date of the reference in parentheses (follow the journalstyle) and page number(s) where appropriate, for ex.: Winograd (1986, p. 204). Otherwise the reference should be enclosed within parentheses(follow the journal style) including the name of the author followed bythe date and page number, for ex.: (Winograd, 1986; Flores et al., 1988).In the event that the author has had two or more works published duringthe same year, the citation and the reference should contain a lower caseletter like a and b after the date to distinguish the works.
