Introduction
"Iranica Antiqua" is the only international journal exclusively dealing with all aspects of pre-Islamic Iran. The journal, present in a large number of University and other libraries worldwide, covers studies on the civilization of pre-Islamic Iran in its broadest sense. Iran and the Iranian world have indeed known very rich and diversified cultures and played a major role in developments in different Near Eastern cultural and historical issues. The Iranian world can certainly be considered as important and precious as Egyptian, Levantine, Mesopotamian ... cultures. Therefore, a journal mainly restricted to the field of pre-Islamic Iran is certainly a must. Also the almost forty years of existence of the journal clearly indicates this need.
This annual publication contains preliminary excavation and survey reports, contributions on archaeological topics and problems, studies on different aspects of history, institutions, religion, epigraphy, numismatics and history of art of ancient Iran and its neighbours.
The first issue appeared in 1961 (journal founded by Roman Ghirshman & Louis Vanden Berge). Since then scholars from all over the world have contributed to the journal with major articles in this field.
