About the journal

Aims & Scope

Inquiry is an Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy. Founded by Arne Næss in 1958, Inquiry has come to occupy a distinctive and highly valued place amongst the philosophical journals. Inquiry is a refereed journal, publishing in all areas of philosophy. It has made its most distinctive mark in fostering exchange across the various internal boundaries and barriers that characterized philosophy over the past century. It has been a significant force in breaking down the distinction between so-called "analytic" and "continental" philosophy; it seeks to connect the history of philosophy with its current practice; it has been a venue for cross-fertilization between philosophy and the social sciences; and it seeks connections between fundamental philosophical issues and contemporary cultural developments.

Inquiry publishes research articles, symposia, special issues, target articles, review essays, art reviews and critical discussions. Under the leadership of a distinguished international editorial board, the journal has created a forum presenting a wide range of material of the highest standard from philosophers across the world, reflecting the best thinking from a variety of philosophical perspectives, in a way that is accessible to all.

EDITORIAL POLICY
Inquiry is a refereed journal, publishing in all areas of philosophy. It has made its most distinctive mark in fostering exchange across the various internal boundaries and barriers that characterized philosophy over the past century. It has been a significant force in breaking down the distinction between so-called "analytic" and "continental" philosophy; it seeks to connect the history of philosophy with its current practice; it has been a venue for cross-fertilization between
philosophy and the social sciences; and it seeks connections between fundamental philosophical issues and contemporary cultural developments. Reviews are confined to extended discussions of books selected for their special interest. Books sent for review are listed in the issues. All papers are published in English.

MANUSCRIPTS
Submitted manuscripts must be sent in duplicate. The author must retain a complete copy for proofreading. The manuscript shall be clearly written on one side only on standard-sized paper, double-spaced throughout (including all note material, references, etc.), with 3 cm wide margins.

The manuscript should be arranged as follows:

Title page. The title should appear on a separate sheet, with the name(s) and institutional affiliation(s) of the author(s), and the full postal and email address of the author to whom proofs, offprints, and other correspondence should be sent.

Abstract. An abstract summarizing the main points in not more than 200 words for articles and 150 words for discussions must accompany the typescript on a separate sheet.

Main text. Use a clear system of headings, with only one grade.

Notes should be typed on separate sheets and numbered consecutively. They will appear at the end of the text.

References should normally be given in the Notes. If a separate list is used it should be typed on a separate sheet, the style as follows:
