About the journal
Description
Indo-Iranian Journal, founded in 1957, publishes papers on ancient and medieval Indian languages, literature, philosophy, and religion; ancient and medieval Iran; and papers on Tibet. Archaeological and specific historical studies, however, are normally excluded.
In recent issues there are linguistic articles on Sanskrit, Middel Indian (Prakrit), New-Indo-Aryan, on Munda linguistics (including the results of field-work), old and modern Dravidian languages (including new material on little-known Central Dravidian languages).
Indo-Iranian Journal also contains many reviews of new publications, and lists the many more publications received.

Manuscript Submission
Articles for publication should be sent to one of the Editors.Books for review and correspondence should be sent to:O. von Hinuber, Orientalisches Seminar(Indologie), Humboldtstrasse 5, D−79085 Freiburg, Germany.
Manuscript Presentation
Manuscripts should be typed doublespaced on one side of plain paper, withwide margins to allow for editorial notes and instructions to the printer.Signs and symbols should be typed if possible; in any case, clarity isessential. The first page of the manuscript should contain the author's name, article title and if necessary a running head (condensed title) whichshould not exceed 45 characters, including spaces. Each page of themanuscript should be consecutively numbered, including pages of references.The author's affiliation should appear at the end of the article. Paperswritten in a language other than English should have an English abstract.(The translation can be prepared by the editors, if necessary.)
Symbols
Unusual symbols should be identified in the margin, and analternative or equivalent symbol or sign should be provided if the onerequired is rare. Special care should be taken to distinguish between theletter O and zero, the letter l and the number one, kappa and K, mu and u,nu and v, eta and n. If not clear subscripts and superscripts and lettershaving diacriticals should be clarified or idetified in the margin. The use of italics is to be indicated by single underlining; bold−face by wavy underlining.
Notes
Notes which do not belong to the head of the article should be numberedconsecutively. They should be placed as footnotes, not asendnotes. A note which refers to the head of the article should beindicated by an asterisk.
Quotation Marks
Direct quotations appear within double quotation marks,except when a smaller typeface is used for extensive quotations. Singlequotation marks are used for words or phrases under discussion, and forexpressions used in a technical sense.

Proofs
The author will receive two first proofs in galley form from theprinter along with an annotated copy of the manuscript, and is requested toreturn one corrected proof with the manuscript to the publisher withoutdelay. In those cases where proofs are not returned promptly, they will beread by the editors−in−chief and passed for publication without the author's comments. Second proofs will be read only by the editors to ensure that allcontributions are typographically correct. A few corrections to the text areacceptable, but authors may expect to be charged for the cost of makingextensive alterations to the text and/or illustrations once in proof.
Offprints
The author will receive, without charge, 25 copies of the articleand the author of a bookreview will receive two offprints of his review,free of charge. Additional offprints may be ordered when the proofs arereturned to the publisher.No page charges are levied on authors or their institutions.
