About the journal

German Studies Review, the scholarly journal of the German Studies Association, is published three times each year, in February, May, and October. The journal publishes articles and book reviews in history, literature, culture studies, political science, as well as interdisciplinary topics relating to the German-speaking areas of Europe encompassing primarily, but not exclusively, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Articles and reviews are published in English or German. Each issue contains at least six articles and sixty book reviews.

Like other scholarly journals, German Studies Review seeks articles that make a fresh contribution to knowledge. All submissions are peer-reviewed "double-blind" by experts on the particular subject of the contribution. A major consideration in determining whether an article should be published is to what extent it will appeal to the readership of German Studies Review. Since the journal embraces several disciplines, articles should avoid highly specialized jargon understandable only to experts in a particular field. German Studies Review seeks to engage readers interested in all of the disciplines of German Studies.

Instructions to Authors

German Studies Review is a journal of first publication. Manuscripts previously published, in press, or concurrently under consideration by another journal or publisher (including electronic publication) will not be considered. This applies to the substance as well as the wording of the manuscript or translations from another language. Any republication requires written permission by the Editor (which is usually granted) and must not go into print before the appearance of the article in German Studies Review, which holds the copyright.

Manuscripts for German Studies Review should be sent to the editor:

Manuscripts submitted should be no longer than approximately 9,000 words, including endnotes (not footnotes). Citation should conform either to Kate Turabian, A Manual for Writers or the MLA Style Manual as appropriate ?in both cases endnotes without indentation, endnote numbers in small superscript and without periods. Use italics rather than underlining. Please consult a recent issue of German Studies Review.

Book reviews are solicited, and no submitted book reviews will be considered. Individuals seeking to be added to the reviewer list should send a complete up-to-date curriculum vitae, including e-mail address, and indicate for which areas and fields they would like to be considered as a reviewer.
